i was wondering if i share my net connection via my desktop to laptop using ICS
nd 2 nics can my laptop mac address visible to my ISP?

Why not buy a wireless router and be able to surf from your desktop and wirelessly from your notebook? This is the setup in my house and trust me, it's really convenient. I don't think wireless routers cost more than 1,500 - 2,000 bucks these days.

if i go by the method u suggested the router. will my laptop mac address visible to my ISP? can he view my lappy's mac address?

I don't think so man. I have the same setup running in my house. That is, PC connected to wireless router via ethernet and an ibook connected wirelessly.

No calls from my ISP so far :) But you're have to put a firewall on each machine to avoid port scans I think. Maybe someone on the forum who knows more about this can post here.

Anything behind a Wifi Router is mostly invisible as even the cheapest of routers have an SPI engine to avoid sniffing attacks.

thx for the input guys! i got another question.what is the difference between Netgear DG834G and Netgear DG834GT which one do u guys suggest and why?

plz can anyone suggest a good ADSL 2 modem with router and WiFi capabilities

and also it shd work with, Airtel, bsnl nd TATA.

why are you so scared about MAC addresses ? You planning any illegal activities ?.

The diff between Netgear DG834G and T, the first one got 54Mbps whilst the second one 108Mbps for wifi.

Netgear is value money(3yrs warranty), there are other cheap ones does the same..... the choice is yours.

They won't be able to see your notebook's mac address.

okay they cant see my notebook's mac what about desktop and router can the ISP see routers mac or desktop mac address??? the reason im asking these questions is that im using my friends connection we share internet. MY FRIEND DESKTOP<-----> ME LAPTOP so we dont want him to know that we share net
NOTE: the isp uses 24online client management software to control manage users some users need to login from 240nline SW to connect to the net but we dont have to use 24BS coz we have Voip. I got buffalo G54S AP and it came with 2CD's Air Navigator (red colored CD) contents client card drivers, product manuals, client manager utility

another Blue colored CD contents setup wizard, product manual

which SW should i install on my notebook and shd i install sw on desktop to?

^^Dude, you've replied to this thread after seven months. You just awoke?

Most routers have mac address spoofing i.e. they can replicate the mac address of the PC. So if your ISP indulges in mac address locks, the router will work seamlessly as if nothing ever happened.

the above applies to all connections am i correct? im using normal cable connection (cablewallah)! not adsl and should i install router's software on both desktop and laptop.
