Iam still confused whether to go for a netbook or a laptop within my budget of 30K. Would like to hear suggestions to whether to choose a laptop or a netbook according to my usage requirements.

  • Budget
Budget is 30K which can be stretched to a maximum of 32K if the 2K extra over the 30K is really worth it.
  • Usage requirements
Websurfing & reading ebooks would be the primary priority. Should be able to run photoshop & other photo editing apps with ease. A netbook would be able to do the first part with ease & latter with some sweating, but i want to keep my options open incase i plan to a bit of gaming (should be able to run atleast some of the latest 3d games at lowest settings). So that's the main reason i've put a laptop into consideration. Watching movies is the last priority & screen should be good enough to watch movies and should be able to handle HD stuff with ease.
  • Size & Weight considerations
Regarding the screen size, i want only a 12" netbook or a 14" laptop. No 10" netbooks or 15"+ laptops. Regarding the weight, the lower the better. Should be portable enough to carry around & not too much thick.
  • Brand Preference
No much inclined towards any brands, though would like to avoid brands like HCL, Zenith etc.
  • Other considerations
Battery life: The more the better.
Screen type: Glossy / Matte should not be an issue.
Intel / AMD: Either one would do.
GPU: Considering my requirements, intel igp's are a big no-no. Would prefer a ATI/NVIDIA one
HDD: 250GB+
RAM: 2GB minimun

Waiting to hear your valuable suggestions..

at 30k, you're really asking for too much, and have to compromise, and i mean a lot.

you cannot have a decent 14"er, or any good 13" er

12" might be feasible, but dont expect any decent power under the hood

getting a non intel IGP almost impossible

either settle for the intel igp or increase your budget, or buy a low end amd based netbook/laptop

Get the HP Mini 311 or even better would be the Asus 1201N. However, the 1201N isn't available in India, but a member here imported it from Iccworld for 27k IIRC. It should satisfy all of your requirements.

MSI X340 comes close to your needs at a budget 2/3rd of yours. It is extremely light at 1.3 kgs, 0.8 inch think and 13" screen, which means extremely portable. I doubt if it will play HD and games, though it has an HDMI port.

Have a look at Acer 4740 too, its around 30k.

Getting a good GPU at this price is difficult.

HP Mini 311 seems a little underpowered. I plan to buy the laptop locally only. ASUS 1201T seems good for its price. Battery backup & screen brightness seems to be the only downsides..

I was considering the MSI X340 also, but reviews don't seem to be good.

Acer 4740 seems to have almost everything i was looking for. Adding it to my final shortlist. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was not looking for a high end gpu for the price, any ATI/NVIDIA would do. Iam too paranoid about intel IGP's..

How about ASUS X8AIE-VX100D?

Here is link for pricing and specs posted by our dealer 'Buygamingstuff'.:http://www.techenclave.com/dealers-paradise/asus-high-end-laptops-171018.html

At 27.7k it has 14" Screen, Core DuoT4500 processor, NV GT310M512MB for gaming, i.e A perfect choice for you. Only drawback its that, it comes with 1GB RAM, which you can upgrade without any problem.

Also check for ASUS PRO8BIE-VX102D: Asus PRO-Series PRO8BIE-VX102D Laptop

It is listed for ~30.5k at 'primeabgb', you might get it cheaper from Buygamingstuff'.

A quick search says, Acer 4740 has NVIDIA GeForce 310M, but it doesn't fit in your budget.

Can't you get ASUS laptop from 'Buygamingstuff' online?

How much is the price of Acer 4740?

Checked two links.. One say 4740 has Intel igp & other says Nvidia 310..

I prefer buying locally.. Unless iam too much out of options..

Update:

After doing some research, i've finally decided to ditch the ati/nvidia gfx part from my requirements. Its a bit too much since my budget is too low to get a decent ati/nvidia gfx.

So the ati/nvidia gfx part goes out & iam putting in a little more attention to the battery backup & weight.

Finally shortlisted these:

MSI CR400x
MSI CR420
Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZ
Dell Inspiron 14z

Need suggestions to which to choose from these or any similar models..

Just bought Acer 5542G 28.8K
AMD 2.2 x2, ATi HD4570/512MB, 3GB DDR2, 320 GB HDD, 15.6" LCD etc.

Very good VFM
I've almost finalized upon the MSI CR400x. Costs just 23.7K locally. Ofcourse it has just 2GB RAM & an outdated 8200M graphics compared to 3GB & HD4570 of the Acer 5542G. But it has got a 14" screen (fits my preference), slightly better battery backup & weight advantage.

Dumped out Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZ & Dell Inspiron 14z even being having 6hrs+ battery backup & portability since they don't make much VFM option considering the performance.

The best way to get the *best under 30k":

- Try to find a good frnd in US who can bring in stuff fr u
- Goto dealnews.com and see laptop section...my frnd recently got a deal on Dell - got a core i3 inspiron 14 for 600$
- You can also see bestbuy.com - these guys sometimes have superdiscounted new laptops which come and go like a sonic jet...even their outlet deals are good

And if US aint possible, your best shot probably is a trip to acer or dell stores...but then here, u have to forget gaming.

Almost finalized upon the MSI CR400x. C2D 2.3GHz, 2GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, GF 8200M, 14.1", just 23.7K..

But again these two deals came on ebay.. Lenovo Z460 for 27.5K & Dell Inspiron 14R for 29.3K.. The Dell's review seems to be good, the only downside being the comparitivly lesser battery life.. Haven't been able to get a single review of the Lenovo Z460 anywhere on the internet.. Somebody who has used this laptop please post in your experience.. Particularly regarding the battery life & build quality. Need usage experience about the Inspiron 14R also..

The above two deals are open for just one day more.. So please send in your suggestions fast..
