Hi
Facing this problem since a few months. Freshly formatted system and tried installing windows 7 with dvd first and bootable usb drive. While trying to expand files during setup always gets stuck at 0%
Gave it for repairs even the person informed windows 7 is not installing and some colour bars show up. He informed there is a damaged graphic chipset which would require replacement. Even I have come across those colour bars few times before i decided to format it. System simply freezes once they appear.
For now he has installed windows xp which is running fine since 10 days. Should i try to upgrade or update windows 7 over it ?

Should I just go for a new one or try to fix it.

It's not a problem of operating system, but some problem with the hardware. It could be faulty RAM, graphics card, something with motherboard, or CPU heating up. Will require proper diagnostics to catch the faulty thing. I don't have much idea how to do that, maybe someone else can tell.

You can start by testing the RAM modules with memtest86, or memtest86+.

Seems like a graphics driver issue since you do not get the same problem while running Windows XP.

Try using some other source for your Win 7 bootable pen drive. Maybe there is some problem with the ISO file that you are using. You can use Rufus or the official MS tool to create the bootable pen drive.

Dude i think the issue is with your hardware it might not be supporting Win 7. Since right now you are currently running Win XP so try installing Win 7 along-with XP.
It might be the case that your installation might be only requiring some basic files. So give it a try! And after installing Win 7 let us know your result?
