Hello guys. I have an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop. Config is Celeron M 420 proccy, 945 mobo, 256mb ddr2 ram and 60gb hdd, BT and wireless and dvd-combo . The BT failed during the warranty period itself and my uncle dint care to RMA it . Its 3 yrs old.

But other things were fine and it was functioning gr8 till yesterday. Today its not powering. tried removing the battery and reinserting, also tried without the battery with Mains power.

Plz give me a solution for this guys. What am i to do for this ???. Dont know which component has gone bad...

Maybe the adapter went dead? check with a multimeter.

Else it would be a mobo/ power related component on the mobo as the cause IMHO.

no dude, If i connect the adapter to the mains power, m getting orange LED glowing in the lappy which indicates its charging . After some hours of charging the green LED turns on which indicates the battery is full...

So how can there be a issue with adapter. I even tried removing the hdd/ram and reinserting. But in vain.

plz advice some more troubleshooting steps...

Take the ram out and power on and post the led status and also , check if u can arrange for a swap of the memory it shud be below the laptop, and can u try removing blth /wlan cards and other daughter cards (Expansion cards) that the machine may be having and post the status..... dont forget to release flee power

what is flee power and how to release it ??. I tried removing the ram, changing the ram slots, even tried removing the HDD. But i dunno to remove the daughter cards, blth /wlan cards

I am new to laptop assembly guys. Plz give me explanation in layman terms...

Get hold of the technical manual (also known as a service manual) for your model from the manufacturer web site or Google the model #.

That manual would usually have detailed diagrams and step-by-step guides for disassembling your laptop to remove expansion cards etc. Most cards are usually located underneath the palmrest area so you will have to remove the front bezel and palm rest plastic cover to access those.

What is the exact symptom? Do any lights come on if you press the power button? Does the system fan start up? It's possible that your system fan is not working or maybe stuck due to build-up of dust. Remove the screws from the bottom that hold the keyboard in place, take out the keyboard and blow away all the dust using a hand pump/blower etc. Since it's 3+ years old, I am pretty certain doing that should resolve your problem.

the bullshit technical manual doesnt state anything properly about disassembly. It just states where the components are located. No information on how to disassemble and the precautionary steps to be taken to disassemble are given.

When i switch on the mains power (power socket) i get green light (which means its in full charge). But i am not able to get the power LED in the power button situated in the laptop. Neither the fan nor the components of the laptop seem to start up.

Anyway i've made up my mind to disassemble it . Have to google on that. Will try it and get back to you guys...
