friends need suggestion for buying a laptop in 20k to 30k for medical student range with following spec
it will be needed for day today use only and nothing big only thing is that
medical related software may be used sometime on it .

screen size : 14"
decent in looks and which can be used for long time.
and weighing less so that mobility can be less painful.

preferrence : dell but problem with it is its battery is total junk added on that
extending warranty of dell is really v costly [ though service is v good ]

considering : open to all brands
dell
toshiba
lenovo
hp
acer
samsung
there is one lenovo laptop coming in ads with can be used as tab also [ ie detachable screen ] and
dell also started touch screen laptops . are these really good to own or just for sellable points ie of
no good use in long run and just for marketing ?

also i am considering if any machine comes without windows also i m fine with that bec
i can go for 1 buying from market with options in my hand. and same for ram also
bec somewhere i read in 1300/- one can buy corsair 4gb ram . yr take on this too pl.

pl suggest /advice .

Take a look at the Lenovo B490. There are several variants with the major difference being the processor - one with a Celeron Dual Core 1000M, one with a Pentium Dual Core B960 and one with the new Sandy Bridge based Core i3 2348 that has a better iGPU as well.

I am thinking of replacing my existing 3+ year old netbook with the Sandy Bridge model and did some research. Found out that the additional 4-5k investment gives a better processor released early this year, more RAM and a better GPU. Might be worth it. The B490 models have a Thinkpad'ish finish with a grainy texture on the outside and the inside.

1 year onsite warranty is available across all the models. I think the higher-end ones come with the accidental damage protection plan.

They do not however ship with the Windows OS. Only DOS. You need to do the rest.

EDIT: Lenovo B490 (59-364694) - Quick Impressions

Look for laptops with the new Pentiums - 2XXX series. They should come in the lower price bracket of your budget. At the higher price bracket an i3 or older i5 is possible.

Will post models once I come back. Look at snapdeal.com
