3. What size and weight considerations do you have? - sleeker the better
4. Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? - brand with good after sales service in Italy and India
5. Any other considerations? - yes better the looks better it is / good battery life (atleast 3 to 4 hrs) and a wide screen

The wide budget is because its flexible. He would obviously like to spend as little as possible.

I was suggesting a Dell as well, since their warranties usually hold good across countries. Any other brands that this applies to as well?

The Studio 15 (non-XPS) comes with an ATI HD 4570. Wanted to know if anyone had any insights into it, since info seems a little sketchy and looks like ATI hasnt officially announced it as yet. The 9400 looks quite entry level and according to specs is worse than even the ever-failing 8600M GS.

Bang on! I was about to suggest the *new* Studio 1525. One of my friend got it shipped to Surat (from Chennai?) for 50k all inclusive. A decent deal IMO. :)

This one is a good performer. Installed GRID on the system and he (surprisingly!) got playable frames at low-med settings. :P

I'd say go ahead with the Studio 15.

EDIT: IIRC, the specs're P8400, 3 GB DDR2 667, 320GB, HD4570, Vista home premium, 6-cell battery. :D

Croma Entertainment laptop anyday.... Or the zenith Director Plus Ultra as both are the same..... I got one recently and believe me it works:hap2: ..... For now anyway.... It costs 40k.... And has got 9600GS which is better than 4570.... Anyway its ur call... do u wish to spend 10k more for a laptop with less performance over just a brand name????

Only issue would be Italy. How many Service centres does Chroma have in Italy? :P

Yep had a look at that in one of the earlier threads. A 9600GS is definitely a good option, however my friend says no Zeniths and as sarang mentioned the after-sales in Italy is a ? ;)

He's a casual gamer anyway - the gaming aspect is just a bonus.

Go for the dell studio 15
It now sports the newer HD 4570 cards :)
You have P8600
3 GBDDR2
320GB
ALL at a price of around 50 K.... Great deal...
