My father has a COMPAQ M2000 presario ....
256 mb ram...
40gb hard disk
xp running

at hte begining it was very fast after nearly 2 months now after which i formatted and reinstalled xp its starting to go ridiculously slow......

wat do i do to improve the performance and speed ????

Remove all junk progs... remove anti virus n try kaspersky or nod...

remove all startup progs...

Customise your XP cd wid nlite,,, remove all the rubbish,, especially the search indexing,, turn off the cartoonish luna theme,, turn off all animations and effects.. Turn off all the services u don need...Eg print spooler if u do print a lot,,,

defragment ur hard disk..
Or better still, backup all ur files and do a full format and repartioning...

get the latest updates from microsoft,, and better stil , integrate it into the customised cd...

Huff dat shud do the trick..

N details can be got easily by a bit of google-ing...
 
Hey upgrade to atleast 1GB of RAM....aint too expensive these days.....

Remove any kind of unwanted software......Since u have only 40GB of HDD.....backup evrthing u need....jus format the HDD and reinstalll XP.....then with more RAM ur lappys gonna run smoothly
