I need a laptop for my cousin. The usage isn't anything power hungry, only basic stuff, no gaming at all. Budget is 30k. Pour in your suggestions.

Brands preferred - Dell, Acer, Lenovo.

Acer 5740 or DELL Inspiron 14/15. Both comes with i3 procy and their on board GPU is much better than the previous GMA4500. :)

Sound quality of the Acer 5738 series was far better than the Inspiron series ( speaking from personal experience ). Don't know about the new i3/i5 ones but I guess the peripherals would be the same.

For basic stuff a Acer 4736z/578z - 27k
You can also get a dell inspiron 14 with the Core i-3 330M for 30K~ with DOS and a back pack from retail stores.

I was eyeing the Acer 4736z, seems to be VFM.

I'll see if I can get hold of a dell with core i3 for around 30k, I find it difficult though.

Thanks for your suggestions. Any other ones worthy to look?

go for the msi cr400x laptop equipped with the core2duo 2.4ghz mate. recently i have purchased it and its functioning great. The 2.4ghz T8300 C2D used in this lappy is a hafnium based 45nm processor which is energy efficient and fast. Moreover it comes with geforce 8200 mGPU, card reader, 802.11n support, bluetooth, 1.3MP camera, DVD multi writer. The build quality is also very impressive. And the most exclusive feature is ,it comes with a 2yr warranty which is not available for other brands in this price range. The price is around 29 - 29.5k..

I'm a bit confused here. Do the Acer 4736z/5738z come with 3GB DDR2 or DDR3?

I had a look at Lenovo G550 - 295894Q as well, seems to be another good contender.

Are there any other 14" screen? I think my cousin won't like a large 15.6" screen.

EDIT: My cousin could put in around 5k more. So I think the best option would be a Dell Inspiron 14 with Core i3. I'm wondering if I should get the one with ATI HD4330 or stick to Intel 4500. I know the ATI will be way much better, however there won't be any gaming on this laptop. But I think it would still be a better option if it provides a better performance with movies and stuff. Also another thing I'm concerned is if the ATI card would increase the battery consumption and provide lesser battery life.

Small is beautiful... try ASUS EEE PC

orrrrr

There is one in Acer a Dual core 2.2 GHz/1 GB/160GB/15.6"/DVDRW/Web Camera/Carry Bag for 23K..... you will also get lenovo Dual core for 26K and Dell will cost you around 29+K with Windows 7 OS...
