Hi,
I had bought an Acer 5738 in september, and i've noticed it gets really hot.HDD Temp shows the temp as 55-60 degree Celsius. I have an updated firmware, which is supposed to take care of this heating problem. Now my question is, is the temp normal?

I use the laptop on the bed(since there is no table), and i notice the airflow is less. Any suggestions?

Regards

^^ Probably there is dust accumulation in the part near the fan which is blocking the airflow. Same was the issue with my Toshiba laptop and i got it cleaned from inside thus eliminating the heating problem.

when laptop overheats one the first thing that needs to be observerd is a trivial looking but important thing, its the rubber feet, check if anyone of them are missing or not the reason for this is blockage of airflow to the laptop, most laptops have a intake fan on the bottom of the laptop so without rubber feet that intake would be blocked,

now if the there is couple of clarifications does the laptop get to hot to place on your lap if it does contact acer tech support as they might have to change the heatsink assembly some compaines change the motherboard along with it but just have a check with them.

Its recommended to keep HDD temp below 55
Deg,as notebooks HDDs are vey hard to get cooled due to its small design constraints rather than desktops, the more the temp:it suffers, the less its life !

On bed many of its vents get blocked thus the temp:increases.Whats your HDD temp while its on a flat surface(table)?.You can use a good quality laptop cooler (active) so that 10-15Deg can be reducded thus you can increase your HDDs life too !

some 7200rpm notebook HDDs have higher temp:ratings too. Each manufacturer specifies temp:Threshold for each models !! as said above please try to clean the vents with a blower too.

Thing is there is only one vent at the left upper side of the laptop, I've noticed that when the lid is open, the airflow is blocked a little(i know it sounds weird) But its an observation.

About removing the dust, how can i do that? Its still under warranty, and i cannot open the laptops, as those stickers are there which tell warranty void if opened.

The books are a great idea, but i since i stay in a PG/Flat i don't have many books. And also there is no table to keep the laptop.

Its nice to mention about the rubber feet, as you said its often overlooked, but in my laptop all are present, and i don't thing it makes much difference when we use it on the bed, because its anyway uneven.

I feel the air coming out of the laptop is really less, thats another observation.

I guess i'll go to the acer showroom(I bought the lappy in b'lore but right now i'm at calcutta) or i guess i should go for a cooler.I have seen the coolermaster Infinity, is it good? or are there aome better VFM ones which are portable and does not need external power.

i would rather check the lappy first with the dealer/service centre before trying the cooler. Cooler is not going to give you a permanent solution and its rather a work around.
