Laptop under $1000 in US

Hi all. I am moving to US to pursue my masters in few days and planning to buy a laptop as soon as I reach US. I am using thinkpad 61p since past 3 years and I am very much happy with it. It is my company's laptop so I will be returning it. A friend suggested me Dell xps 15z. Is it a good one? If not can you suggest some other. I will be using it mainly for studies and sometimes to watch movies. Budget is around 45k Rs. Thanks a lot in advance.
 
Thanks for your input. But sadly the lenovo back to school offer ended yesterday. Need to enquire if it is still available. Mean while any inputs on Dell xps 15z? Most of my friends are suggesting this. And will be getting very high configuration (i7, 6gb RAM) for lesser than $900.
 
^Its pretty good, used it for a short while. Only took a while to get used to the chiclet keyboard and missed the lack of dedicated page up/down keys

Hi ,may i know where we can get 15z as i found only XPS 15. a link is appreciated as even i am planning to purchase a laptop from US.

You have to pay around $1200+taxes for i7,6gb config and you can't customize 15z.You can also try Dell Outlet | Refurbished Computers, Laptops, PCs & More | Dell for cheaper factory certified refurbished laptops.

Thank you all. Now I am confused whether to go for xps 15 or xps 15z. i7 6gb RAM costs less than $1k for xps 15 and for xps 15z it is around 1200. My budget is $1000. Either I need to buy xps 15 with above config or I need to buy xps 15z with lower config(i5). Any suggestion here?
