Hi i would like to buy a new laptop

my main criteria are follows

budget 50k

processor i3 2nd generation

Ram 4gb DDR3 upgradable

weight less than 2kg prefered

Battery== most needed

So they are my requirement

I want my laptop to have maximum battery life lets say 6hrs.

  1. Plan to upgrade HDD to SSD is it good
  2. How about the 128gb SSD kingston with 3 yrs warranty
  3. Can you please guide me to how to change Hdd to SSD not the physical change but the software change
  4. How to copy windows os and software from HDD to SSD

I have short listed few laptops particularly samsung series5 and series 3 how about them are they reliable.

Please provide me other alternatives as well.

When I think battery... It's always the ThinkPad X220... My colleague gets 9hrs on an average. It's a Core i5+4gb+normal HDD. The fact that the X220 is <1.5kg doesn't hurt either.

Now the problem is that ThinkPads are really expensive in India, see if you can get one from the US. It's much cheaper there and it comes with worldwide warranty.

For SSD, if you have the money it's a good upgrade. I compared a T400 with a 2.2Ghz dual core proccy & a 7200 HDD with a X301, 1.4Ghz dual core & SSD. The X301 with SSD has much better response.

Not just battery, the x220 is brilliantly engineered and well built and performs way better than the competition. Add to it integrated mobile broadband(optional upgrade), USB 3.0, the best full sized keyboard in the world among all laptops currently, IPS display, 720p webcam and a very good software suite. The x220 with a core i7, 9 cell battery can be had for under 1000$.

Could u plz tell me a place where i can get the think pad under 1000$ even i5 will do for that price but many reviews of x220 says it is bad

It is not bad,but thick and not so light for a 12 inch laptop.

^^^ An Apple fanboy! It weighs 1.5 kgs ~ 1.6 kgs with a 9 cell battery and will run circles around the mb air and the mbp 13 in performance/build quality/reliability/battery life/pricing.

I bought my x220 off ebay for 1020$ in Dec @ Rs.57 a dollar. BTW where did you find negative reviews for the x220? Show me a single review which rates it at less than 8/10.

Oye!!Where did I talk about bad review?

It is indeed a great laptop, but it is heavy and phaat for a 12 incher.

how is 1.6 kg fat that too with a 9 cell extended battery?

@mannuel - where did you find negative reviews for x220?

well to tell u the truth i don't like the appearance of thinkpad x220 well it may be king in performance but it is a clown in look.

I prefer asthetic also.

If i extend my weight preference a little more like up to 2.2 kg is there any model out there.

If you don't like the look of the X220 then I'd assume all ThinkPads are out.

I'll cut to the chase... Do you have a certain Brand/model you are already looking at? cause 2.2kg is being quite specific mate

If you can increase your budget get this from Vaio S series - VPCSB36FN. Claimed battery life is 6 hrs and 1 more hour after you replace it with SSD. IMO this is your best bet. (Not considering models of US). Also get the warranty extended upto 3 yrs @ just 2.5k. Complete peace of mind in 55 + 2.5 = 57.5k.

The hinge in the SB series is terrible....Only God knows how Sony messed up a near perfect laptop with such a horrible hinge.

It is weird, blocks the vents almost completely at a particular angle...when kept over a slightly inclined surface,it tends to slide down.

thank god i almost convinced to get sony SB series.

can i ask one question the Acer Aspire S3 has intel HD 3000 as graphic processor while the samsung np530 13 inch model have shared memory for GPU which one is better

i would like to play some games like civilization, sims,GTA and i don't need high settings i am usually satisfied with medium settings.

Both have HD3000 AFAIK. But both the models are ultrabooks and will be too costly. At what price are you getting them ?

Acer aspire s3 is offered at 51k for i5 model and samsung NP530 14 inch model also 51k from local shop.So I think NP530 is more VFM

Mannuel, did you check the Toshiba ultra book R830 or something like that,I am not sure of the price though.

toshiba z830 is a ultrabook, comes with 64gb ssd and great battery life. but the laptop is too pricey in india, 85k i think. but is available for 900$ in us for a core i3 based config. also if you can get a laptop from us samsung princeton is very good and costs around 450usd with core i3 and hdd. if you can't get from us, you can check out np350u2b for around 32.8k with i3 and 34.3k for core i5 and hdd.
