I will be going to dubai on 8th dec, for 5 days. I am planning to purchase a laptop in the range of 50k from there, if possible due to the price difference
between laptops in india and in dubai.
I can buy only if i am sure if there will be no international warranty issues when i get it serviced in india. i have heard that dell offers a transfer of warranty from one country to another, at some cost and its international warranty service is good(some of my friends have dell laptops purchased in dubai). But there are no laptops from dell which fit rightly in my requirements, except the expensive XPS 15 in which i need the 435m upgrade to suit my gaming needs, so i7 upgrade is mandatory. the cost of such a laptop is more than 60k india, but if it is anywhere near 52k in dubai, i'll buy it. the cost in USA of this model is less than 50k after $ conversion so there is a chance that it can be cheaper in dubai too.
I need help in the following:
Need info about international warranty services of sony, toshiba, acer, asus etc.. in india. (have already heard horror stories of hp, so will not buy a hp).
and in dell, what will be the cost of warranty transfer?
My requirements are:
ATI 5650 or better, NVIDIA 435m or better, 15.6" 720p preferred.
4GB RAM (can upgrade if it has 3 GB), 500GB or above HDD, processor- will settle for i3 if other specs and price are good, i5 or above preferred.
weight less than 6 pounds preferred(nothing more than 2.8kg).
battery life- anything will do, as laptop will be plugged in most of the time.
I will use the laptop for gaming and programming, but it will be a secondary machine to my desktop which already has good gaming specs, so mid-end GPU will do.
If conditions are not favourable, or price difference is too less, i will buy it from india itself.

at 60K in India ideapad Y560 with i7 740QM and 1GB HD5650

Else

Sony VPCEA 36 fg with i5 560M and HD5650

I recommend him to try the XPS 15

I have it and can easily OC the GT420M above GT435M

I could get to 700/900 with ease

In some games 760/960 also

So go for it with i5 and 420M

Though I am not a apple fan but in this case, Apple has International Warranty as well, and have heard only good things about their MacBook Pro.

Hi teja,

i read your XPS 15 review, it was very useful, but i feel that your perspective on gaming differs from mine. you gave 420m 5/5 in graphics but i feel it is too weak for me. instead of buying a weak card and overclocking it in a laptop, it is better to buy a better card and run it at stock speed.

lenovo Y560 has been having display issues with many pieces, so it is a gamble to buy it.

sony 36 fg is 14", too small for me. Thanks for the suggestions.

Concerning apples, i feel they are a style statement alone and offer poorest value for money, especially to a gamer. but yes, apple's international warranty is fantastic, which is why i am going to buy an itouch in dubai :) .

there were many warranty issues in India for all major lap brands, although they claim its valid , finally the ASP will reject the same here, there many customers here who were duped by these ASPs.Else hey will charge you with hefty bills !!!!!!!!!!!!

Bro, check out the Asus u36JC with an international warranty, and shipping from USA via a seller on ebay.

1049 + 107 dollars shipping. Thats about 50 k. Plus about 6-7 k duty MAX.

MIGHT good deal @ 57k.
