To all,
I want to sincerely apologize for an unfortunate situation regarding the Seagate Exos 16TB drives that was sourced this time, after thorough testing and verification, it has come to my attention that the drives received are not genuine Seagate Exos models but appear to be altered drives. I was expecting that these would have altered power on hours as that was normal in the current situation as a market.

This was completely unexpected, and I deeply regret any inconvenience or concern this may have caused. I take full responsibility for ensuring that every transaction I conduct is transparent and legitimate, and in this case, I was misled by my supplier. I've contacted a couple of members who purchased drives from my previous lot and I can confirm with 100% certainty that those batches were not affected.

Refund Process​

For those who have already paid for these drives today, I will be issuing full refunds.

Next Steps​

• I am working with my supplier to address this issue and will be reporting the fraudulent nature of these drives.
• Moving forward, I will be implementing additional verification steps to avoid any such issues in the future.

Major Issues with this batch of drives​

1. Windows Identifies It as a Hitachi Drive (HUA728080ALN600)
   • Seagate Exos should not show up as a Hitachi HUA728080ALN600 (which is an 8TB He10 drive).
   • This suggests the firmware has been modified to spoof the identity.
2. Different Firmware on Label vs. CrystalDiskInfo
   • Label says SN01, but drive reports LBC4 in CrystalDiskInfo
   • This is unusual; Exos drives generally don’t have mismatched firmware unless they’ve been flashed or tampered with.
3. SMART Data & FARM Check Fails
   • FARM data is not available – likely not a Seagate drive (or unsupported model).
   • Real Seagate Exos drives should pass the Seagate FARM check regardless of smart data being reset or not, but this does not.
   • This could mean it’s:
     • A refurbished Hitachi drive with a fake Seagate label.
     • A lower-capacity drive flashed to appear as 16TB.

How to Verify If the Drive Is Fake​

Run a Full Capacity Test (H2testw or F3)​

• Use H2testw (Windows) or F3 (Linux/macOS).
• If the drive is actually 8TB, the test will fail beyond that point.

Learnings from a bit of panic that set in when I posted the message above

I ran the docker command mentioned here on a Linux system - SMART / FARM values on new HDDS

This is what shows up when it's not a Seagate drive (WD one in this case)
FARM data not available - likely not a Seagate drive
SMART:
FARM: N/A
RESULT: SKIP

This is what shows up when it is a new Seagate drive
SMART: 248
FARM: 248
RESULT: PASS

This is what showed up from the Seagate drive that resulted in a "FAIL" check. The interpretation here is that since there is a FARM value (which most likely will not match the SMART value), this is a Seagate drive. It may not be "new" but it is Seagate.

The screenshot that was posted earlier in the thread by @aasimenator showed that the FARM values itself could not be read which is a red flag.

none right now, the bad ones are on their way back to the supplier, will be getting a proper model from them after. No other drives are available anywhere, unfortunately. pricing seems to be going up and up. I have some vendors asking upwards of 20k for 16tb with no warranty.... so hold off for a better deal.

Well, I had assurances in place, and they were reluctant to accept it was their mistake, but a complete documented report as to why it was a fake product was submitted to them, and as soon as I raised the issue they agreed to take it back.
Not just shipping costs I lost over 50k on that, 30k was customs duty which will not be returned, 10k in bribes and 12k for shipping and insurance, plus I have to incur approx 12-15k in return now.

There are no more hard drives available. It seems like there is a scarcity of drives, and the prices have shot up considerably.
A lot of people have requests for drives, and I am trying my best to procure them, but not able to find anything closely sellable. I can get 2016-2018 12TB Hard drives , but I believe getting such old drives is not worth it. I believe they will fail within 8-12 months of purchase, and your money will be down the drain, therefore, I do not even advertise that I have those drives.

I found these drives below, and I've told all of my vendors to get more drives, hoping that some will at least get something.

Please do update this thread @aasimenator whenever you get a new batch. I was late to read all of this. And now feel bad with how much issues you have to go through.
If at all you get deals that are slightly higher than the normal, try to see if people from here would like to purchase.

Recently I have encountered bad exp. about people buying from ebay. HDDs works fantastically for a few months and all of a sudden bad blocks and death!
I think the sellers just reset smart and sell bad stock.
