India-built Military Grade MIL-STD-810H Smartphone for Rs 5499. Corning & Lava Collaboration.

It is estimated that close to 400mn people are ready to transition to smartphones for the first time in their lives. Lava who is a top player in the budget smartphone market in India has understood from their experience that durability is one of the major factors that first time buyers want their smartphones to have. So Lava teamed up with Corning to come up with the Lava Z1, the first India-made smartphone that comes with a military certification, and it only costs 5,499 rupees. I also speak with Jaymin Amin from Corning & Sunil Raina from Lava to get a better understanding of this developmemnt.

With a plastic back ? Yeah, sure .. its battle ready. There is no authority which certifies for MIL-STD-810H. Manufacturers can "claim" to do the prescribed tests in-house for compliance. Its just marketing.
