Video LCD or LED or PLASMA, my dads torturing me :(

well in the sony the equivalent model of samsung B650 is the EX500.
or the EX700 LED lcd.

the EX500 advantages are lower power consumption, better sound, slightly better SD.
the EX700 being a led lcd has more features such as WIFI ready,mpeg4 playback via USB etc and more dynamic contrast and even lesser power consumption.

the samsung B650 will soon be replaced by C650

hector19,

What is the current size of the TV you have, its brand and type (CRT/LCD) ?

AM Currently on Sony 29 inch ! :eek:hyeah: CRT 2 year old model, but dont remember the Name exactly :(

OK, i will assume its a 4:3 and you want to get a 32" LCD that will be 16:9.

The 29" has an area of 404 square inches
The 32" has an areas of 432 square inches

The increase in area is just 8%.

However whats more important is your perception of height.

The 29" has a height of 17.4 inches
The 32" has a height of 15.67 inches

Therefore ppl will appear slightly smaller on your new 32"

Why spend money for the 32" in this case ?

To have the same height, you would need a minimum of 36", so to notice the difference you have to go for larger than 36"

^ Good observation... that is exactly the reason my folks weren't keen on picking up a 32 incher after our 29" CRT.

Even i was in same dilemma lately, between 32" and 37" LCD. Since my viewing distance is approx 12 feet too, i think i can help.

I first tried a 32" Sony at a friend's place from this distance. It felt small.

And in the past ive experienced 52" LCD and found it to be just oversized. Hence i went with my logic and ordered a 37" 5 series samsung without seeing it.

Im happy to say it was simply perfect for the distance.

But incase you plan to view from 15feet, and want a HT experience, then its better to stick with the recommended 40" 5 series in 53-54k.

Conlclusion: 37" or 40" 5-series samsung. Reason: Superb quality, life, at a reasonable price.

Specs: Using Samsung 37" 5series WD HD player and airtel DTH, Tried the Sony 32" with HDMI input and Tata sky+, Tried 52" Sony with PS3 and Airtel DTH.

I think you should go for no less than 40".

How much do you get deducted if you trade the CRT in (is that even an option ?)

Otherwise the sister coming from Singapore will be the better option. You'll get a third off the asking price that way. But might go over her baggage allowance.

Given you will mostly be watching HD content then the Sammy's will be good for this. However if there will any SD content then the Sony comes out better.

yep +1 to the 40" version, the 37" version of the samsung comes with a SMVA panel which has a narrow viewing angle (i.e contrast and color shift) compared to the AMVA panel which u may or may not get.
although one can still get a SMVA panel in the samsung 40" ,u can also get the SPVA or AMVA based panels.
where in the sony u can get either get a AMVA or a SPVA.

Sony Bravia 42" LCD TV is the best ...Don't go for LED, agreed it has better performance but it's really expensive and not worth that much.
Myself have the 42" bravia and i have hooked up it with my TVIX HD player i watch all my blu ray rips moviez there on all sunday with my family and it rockxxx .... !!! Also have a 32" bravia on my room ......Sony Bravia all the way :)

Guys, Many f my friends are against the 37 inch :( says its an ODD size, that u might not get any support in the Future :(, it aint Feature or future proof !

wat've do ? is it really TRUE ? ? ?

well i don't think its a odd size, but i don't recommned it due the marginal price difference and the fact that the chances of getting can get a CMO SMVA panel in the samsung are high.

No one can decide the TV size for you. Measure the viewing distance and decide. My family chose a 37-Incher (Samsung Series 5 ) As the 40 inch was for 5k more and also 37 had the perfect viewing distance.

I used that 5k and got speakers and HDMI cables.

The Samsung B series are SOLD uot in Singapore :( So getting the C 550 40 inch LCD no idea bout the INR Price :(

Plasmas are much maligned but the recent controversy about auto reduction in black levels with aging on Panasonic plasmas didn't help the matter either.

Coming to LCD vs. LEDs. The so called LED tvs are actually LCD panels which use LEDs for backlight instead of the more conventional CFL. Most of the LED tvs of today use edge LEDs which result in some drop in brightness around the center of the screen. Google this to find out more. Moral of the story: They are not worth it unless you are sold on the slim looks.

Go for 40". Buying 32" in full HD doesn't make a lot of sense unless you want to sit really close....
