you wont get any great deals in this regard...

i suppose you will be using a TV tuner for the purpose.. tuner comes with audio out, so buy 2.0/2.1 speakers separately. will cost you as much an lcd monitor with built-in speakers plus both sound and display will be independent, thus, leaving you an opportunity to part them when you dont need them.

AOC offers quite a few models with built-in speakers.

Best of the lot: AOC 619Fh (3W X 2) :p

Then you have a few with 2W X 2, 1.5W X 2 and rock bottom , 1W X 2 config.

Nothing beats a standalone speaker system though.

You get decent 2.1 systems for under 2K.

3w x 2 :ashamed:

Any recommendations for slim 2.0 speakers as 2.1 will not be able to accommodate due to less space ??

Looks like I will recommend him purchasing a LCD TV and will be using it as monitor as well !!

You need the right kind of hardware(read GPU) to fuel a LCD TV.

Suggest you get a decent LCD monitor and a 2.0 system from Altec Lansing perhaps?
