Video LCD TV 32" Query

Adept
Hi all

I wish to purchase a 32" LCD full HD TV. Am on a tight budget of 30-33k. Have shortlisted the LG Jazz.

Any opinions or recommendations.

Thanks

Sorry,

Would be using it for DVD, Divx and cable. Basically, SD viewing.

Actually, want a 40" but want to wait for the new models and when I get the 40" I would shift this to another room.

So basically looking for VFM. Thanks

You said you want a Full HD TV but will be using it for SD viewing. It would make more sense to go for an HD Ready TV where you will also have more choices.

Any specific reason why you want a FHD?

In the SONY 32" range, which would be a better buy, SONY 32W400 OR the SONY 32V550?

The 32" W400 series has the Bravia Engine 2 (BE2) but a high contrast Ratio and is mid-line SONY model. While the newer 32" V550 is a V series which is also now a Full HD (like the W series) has the newer Bravia Engine 3. The V model has a USB drive while the earlier W series has a Digital Media Port. Also the power consumption on the newer 32V550 is slightly better compared to the 32W400.

Does the Bravia Engine 3 have better processing for regular SD (e.g. Tata Sky) signal?

The cost is about the same for both these 32" LCDs. Any thoughts / ideas which would be better amongst these two LCDs?

well if price isn't a factor then the V550A is better mainly due to BE3.yes BE3 does improve SD quality.

I have finalised the Sony V Series. But I am confused between 32 and 40 inch. My viewing distance in 9-10 feet. I'll be placing it in my bedroom. Found SD content a little soft and lacking sharpness in comparison to 32. Pls help as I need to buy in next 1-2 days max..

Thanks

At the distance you mentioned, 40" in SD may be a bit 'grainny'. 32" or 37" would be best. But since 37" in SONY is not out in 550 series, you have only 32" and 40" to choose from. Best would be to go to a store and view regular Tata Sky SD signal at the distance mentioned by you and then make a final decision. Pretty sure the 32" 550 will look better, but if you are absolutely sure about the 40" size preference, then go for it.

But wouldnt 40" be too big for cable viewing at a distance of 9 feet?

well for SD content yes,but u have said u will be playing HD videos, since u did have ur old tv for quite a long time,i suggest u get the 40inch,for HD videos it will be better.

always go for bigger size. You will be using this tv for may be about 5 years. HD broadcasting will come in about 2 years. so, if u go for a bigger tv now, you can enjoy the experience then.

Also, if you are into gaming, bigger is always better :)

Have shortlisted Panasonic LX80/LE8.

Request you to share your opinion on the above TV.

Also is it true that the above moels dont accept 1080p via HDMI i.e they wont even downscale them to 720p for playback.

Thanks

Pan LE8 best VFm & for 28k.
Both LE8 & LX80 are HD ready with resolution of 720p.They can accept 1080p & downscale to 720p,so dont worry...

Finally bought a panny 32LX80 for 29.5K including HDMI cable.

My sincere thanks to everyone for helping me in my purchase.

Thanks again.

As per the new Bravia Catalog, W series KLV-32W550A comes with the Bravia Engine 3.
Btw I am confused about the full HD part. For the W series, it is just mentioned 1920*1080, but for the V series, it is specifically mentioned 1920*1080 Full HD. Does that mean that the W series is not full HD?

Also, what is the price diff b/w W550A and V550A? I thought it was somewhere in the range of 10k.

Both the SONY 32" V & W models in the 550A series are Full HD. They both have BE 3. The 32W550 has the 100Hz Motionflow that is not present in the 32V550.

Yes, the price difference between these 32" LCD is approx. 10K.

we might get hd in 2 years but i very seriously doubt it will be 1080i. it'll probably be 720p.

n atleast when i use my x360, there is no diff between 720p n 1080i. i even downloaded some content of both. din see any noticeable difference. but i think 1080i wld be imp for larger screens.

so if u r livin in india if u dun have d moolah, den dere is no problem at all in buyin 720p lcds. there is not much of a loss.
