hey the all to knowledgeable ppl of TE , I wanted to replace my LCD monitor for a LCD TV of 26" (me leaned towards the samsung bordaeux 26" for around 35K).

I have seen a laptop connected via a VGA port to the TV's PC in & the results were very good. Let me say very very good.

What i would like to know is , are there any drawbacks to this process ? Also do i need an HDMI output card to really enjoy HD movies playing on my PC on a LCD TV ?

Thank u people.

PS - This is my first post so bear with me if i posted in the wrong section.

lag is always a problem, but shouldnt be much of an issue if you dont play games. :)

better use HDMI/ DVI if you can, and the resolutions might be a bit tricky

Yes the resolutions are a bit tricky as i found out practically trying on our office samsung bordeaux 26" wiyth VGA in. but the clarity was amazing.

As for games , I only play BL 2007 & VT3 both sports games.

I have also given thought to a GFX card that has HDMI output , my only question is can i get a SLI card with HDMI O/P & can i use it with my existing Nvidia 6600 GT to virtually add their powers ??

Thanks for the reply.

PS - I got a quote of 32K for Samsung 26" bordeaux with warranty. Seems nice ?

There are quite a few problems with using a LCD TV as your primary monitor. While movies will look great, with that low resolution of 1366X768, you will have a tough time reading any sort of text on the monitor due to the large pixel size. You will have to increase the text size quite a bit, and then keep scrolling all the time. For the 32k or so that a sammy 26" will cost, you are much better off with a Dell 2407. Its just been upgraded, and the 2407WFP-HC model is available here.... you should be able to bargain and get it for 5k or so more than your LCD TV.

THe general consensus is that you *can't* get a TV & monitor in one package yet :(

Tho if you went with a monitor, that would work fine for the TV bit right ?

..or is it that monitors don't have as many jacks (cos they are ..well monitors) that Tvs do.

Either way. you got to get one of both, and that makes the bottomline of said manufacturers very happy.
