I had mailed a leadtek rep yesterday to inquire about the arrival. This is what he had to say

leadtek rep said:
Thanks for your enquiry. YES, leadtek has the newest 7800 GTX. Its in only
PCI-E and 256 MB DDR-3.

Unfortunately there are no reductions at this point of time in 6800 range.
But soon its expected as usual.

So there are no immediate price reductions in the 6 series as of now. But its a good sign that a new card like the 7800GTX is available at the same time in india as the US. Have mailed him about the price since he forgot to mention it. Will update as soon as i get his mail.

haha, looks like they still live in 2004.
Seriously the customs duties on PC parts is no longer 40%.
The problem lies somewhere else.
These companies has to pay 16% foreign currancy tax. That is a brutal unfair tax you pay only bcoz you are buying part from another country. Its not applicable for individuals but only to corporates and commercials.
And you know how stupid these importers are? they declare graphic card as other PCB. WHich has a duty. If they declare it as computer parts there is no duty now.
grrrrr. When are they gona learn?

what is the price of the card in usa? my friend is over there right now.

also is there only 1 7 series card as of now?

& how fast is 7800gts compared to lets say a 6800gt or 6800ultra ingame. i am not interested 3dmark n other benchmarks cause they are of no use.

^^ Its 599$ there.........atleast @newegg,zipzoomfly and tiger direct. The card is useful in shader intensive games. and yeah right now there is only one 7 series card now.

Thats like India is still livin in the old times as there's a huge diff. in the price of the card here(Under 38.5K after every tax) and in US(under 30k)...
But atleast its available at the same time in both places...
Here its for those who cn rake in the moolah

^^Haha.. the leadtek guy is a twit. Couldn't respond to my questions.. they are making a cool 6K on each card. Idiots.. can't they figure out they won't sell too many to people whose surnames aren't Ambani/Birla/Tata?

I would still not go for a 7800GTX unless it drops to around 400$. The card is not worth it...... The performance gain you get is not worth the extra money.

This may be good for people who are buying a high end comp and DO NOT have a previpous 6800GT or Ultra or ATI X850 series. But for someone looking to upgrade.... not worth it......

yep 20% is going into dealer's pocket. Thats too much of profit to be honest. The problem is they dont get many buyers for even 6600GTs here in India.

These damn dealers r so greedy, even when the situation improves in metros wt users looking at buying high end stuff they dont even consider a measly price drop. My best option is to steal one from the Nvidia office at Blore ;-), still am not sure what they do here though??!

mainly embedded systems stuff. (Their goforce line). A friend of mine just got into it last week. don't think they have too many highend cards with them there ;)

Hey, c'mon I just stated before the B'lore office only does software development, they don't deal with hardware so chances are that they will never get the 7800GTX...

As far as the Leadtek card goes, too bloody expensive and personally I will skip the 7 series and go for probably the 8 series when I change my entire rig after 2 years...

But they have reduced the prices of some other cards to SUPERB Levels.... the 6800GT AGP for 17K!!!!

And since the 7800GTX is a new card, they will prcie it high..... and also the fact that even if they did price it around 30K, no one would buy it. If someone was ready to buy it for 30K, they will still buy it for 35K. If you are ready to spend that much money a little bit will not matter.

and anyone who buys the 7800 GTX must be STINKING rich. And for them 15-20K will be a drop in the bucket....
