Hey everyone,

Would appreciate some advice on whether there are any major cons with regard to the Lenovo A2107. (Hope the link points to the same model as the one available in India. If not, please advise.)

I'm looking around for a tablet for my better half. She mainly wants to use it for emails & internet browsing on the move. So 3g is necessary. Also, it's got to be "branded". (So no Mmx, Karbonn etc. - Can't have those when you are dealing with clients. Lenovo is OK though.)

Of course, I'd like to keep the budget to a minimum. So this Lenovo A2107 at ~9.5k seems to fit the bill. The next best in line AFAIK which fits the criteria is the Samsung Tab which is about 5-6k more. Compared to the latter, the Lenovo has a poorer processor but I don't see much difference besides that.

So is there any major drawback to the Lenovo. It isn't recommended anywhere, so I'm a bit apprehensive.

& the model here in India is 3G sim capable, right? So I just buy a sim, activate a 3G plan & I'm good to go?

Would appreciate any other suggestions as well. Thanks for your time.

So while no one really has had any experience with the Lenovo, I'm hoping someone can at least shed light on which is the better tab between the Samsung tab 3 & the Nexus 7C. There's so many versions floating about that I'm truly confused. I'm hoping the ones I've linked to are the ones which meet my requirements stated in the 1st post. Also, given that both are priced the same, I think they lend themselves to direct comparison.

Thanks for your time.

I have Nexus and it is very good in performance and quality. Nexus will also be slightly better in performance compared to Samsung because its processor is better. No idea about Lenovo

Nexus 7C 3G is around 16k right? Its an amazing device plus is bloatware free! Compared to the Galaxy Tab 3 T211, the Nexus has the edge in performance! However you can't use your Nexus for voice calls over a carrier. The Tab 3 T211 allows you to make calls. If that isn't important, then i suggest you go for the Nexus. I own a tab 3 T311 and i dont like Touchwiz one bit, so got Nova Prime Launcher and its amazing now. The Nexus has stock android and you are free to customize as you want!
Also for the usage you specified I would definitely suggest the Nexus 7C over the Samsung Tab 3!

If you have some free time, go down to a local store or ezone shop and let your better half have a look at both! The Tab 3 T211 is super sleek while the Nexus 7C is a performer!

@humans @shanx - Thanks for your replies.

So if I understand correctly-

1. Between the Tab 3 T211 & the Nexus 1st gen, there's no real difference in general usage (office apps, browsing, multitasking etc.). The better processor of the Nexus will make a difference only in gaming.

2. The Nexus has a better screen res iinm. Whether it's sufficiently better can be best gauged by comparing the two.
----- So when I'm in a store comparing the two, what would be the best test in this regard? Will text readability while browsing make the difference apparent? Do I check this after zooming in on a page?

3. The Samsung has a rear camera & voice calling. That's about the only clear advantage.

4. To sum up, you can't go wrong with either. It's more a case of what feels better.

I'd also like to know what the difference is between the Sammy Tab T211 & T311. There's so many versions of these tablets floating around!
& what's the C in Nexus 7C stand for? Cellular? It's not some toned down version of the original, right?

Again, many thanks. Much appreciated.

The differences between T211 and T311 are as follows :
T311 has an 8 inch screen with 1280x800 resolution while the T211 has a 7inch screen with 1024x768 resolution
T311 is much faster because of its Exynos heart. T211 and T311 both can make voice calls and personally i picked the T311 cause of the screen size. It is just perfect for browsing and mails. Also the T311 is the only one in the Tab 3 line up to get multi-window. However the T311 is 24k now so you need to keep that in mind!

Thanks for the breakdown...... & would you say my conclusions in the post above with regard to the Nexus 7 & Tab 3 T211 are about right?

Yup they are....
Go for the Tab 3 T211 if the wifey needs voice calls and a camera plus it has expandable memory so if that is a concern then the Tab 3 Shines!
Also the 1280x800 on the Nexus 7 will help a lot in reading small text. And yes the 7C is the cellular edition but only cellular data. The nexus 7 is an all rounder and you can't go wrong with it!

Whatever amount of effort you put in to select the tablet simply doesn't matter!!
It's just for your satisfaction that you are getting her the best
Ladies will hardly go for performance and all the crap

Does it look good?
Does it have camera?
Can I make some calls?
These are the kind of questions you should ask yourself ratherthan screen resolution etc

........
Ladies will hardly go for performance and all the crap

But should they really?!? I mean if you're not going to tax your tab/phone, is there any need to bother with specs? In that case, simply go for whatever looks & feels nice, i say.

However, I do get where you're coming from, because I have had this feeling of exasperation as well on a few occasions. Someone wants to buy something. They ask you for advice. You do your research....... & they end up buying something that's completely out of sync with what you've told them. ...... & it's not just the ladies, it's everyone. People end up changing their priorities & even budgets considerably when they are actually in a store wanting to make a purchase.

If I spend lot of time to decide a gadget for my wife she would get irritated about wasting time!!!

So best would be to get the Samsung tab3

Lol! Can very well understand. People do get irritated with the R&D. But for me, it's become an OCD.

Luckily in this instance, she's in no hurry. I thought she was. .....& she also says that Samsung is too common..... So it might very well be the Nexus. (In fact, I did tell her about the 2nd gen being great & she's intrigued.)

But if you ask me, the Lenovo would suffice. & I'd like to save up on the moolah. The decision will be taken once she's seen all 3 in practice of course. Let's see when that happens.

That's exactly what I told
The research is always for our satisfaction and nothing to do with their satisfaction!!

So search and then research again and finally she will decide what she wants and she will mostly be absolutely happy with her choice as shewillnever open gsmarena or engadget to see that a better resolution screen was available.....[DOUBLEPOST=1381388470][/DOUBLEPOST]Or a more powerful processor was opening the apps 0.5seconds faster than the one she bought

Can I use an external 3G dongle with the Nexus 7? (I read somewhere that it does not support most of the commonly available dongles)
