1) is y570 a good laptop? does it also have some problem like the y560? i am asking because it is quite cheaper than others

Does lenovo offer international warranty?

If you could slightly up your budget, for 999 there's one with i7 quad and 64GB SSD along-with 750GB HDD on logicbuy.
 
699 to 999 is not slightly yaar, atleast for me.

and yes lenovo is offering limited intl warranty on this model applicable in India

but my main worry is - is the laptop free from any mass-defect like the predecessor considering it is so cheap
and is this particular deal worth it or is there any catch which i am not aware of?
 
Well, I could not find any overheating issues with it... and somewhere in the review it was mentioned that lenovo has used a larger heatsinks for this one.

I think thats okay since Asus has also come-up with N55 series housing the GT 555 chip. And I've seen that one personally, beautiful piece that one. The thickness is okay for a 15.6 laptop with good gaming performance. I was told that Y 570 also had similar dimensions.

BTW, again out of your budget, but for 1249 it offers i7-2670QM (2.2 GHz), 8 Gigs RAM and a FULL HD screen (something lenovo does not offer in any model).

Oh, and regarding the 14" Y 470, I'm still using an old (and frail..:S) Dell XPS M1530 (15.4") and when I saw Asus N55, I though they've actually reduced the overall footprint by fitting 15.6" screen. So it already felt to me I was holding a 14" piece, but you know, that may be just me. Also 15.6" will offer more real estate for case and thus cooling space.
