Let's be the faces of the change we wish to see and kick off a sustainability initiative here from TechEnclave. All of us studied about the "three 'R's of sustainability - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" in our study books. It's time to practically enact all that knowledge in real life. We Indians, from centuries, have been exceptional at all three aspects but changing times demand more. We can't just sit back and blame the government for everything. Did you know that your damaged and worn out shoes can be recycled? I didn't. My damaged shoes always ended up in the trash can! There are organisations in our own country that have been working tirelessly for decades to serve this specific purpose. I'll list down a few here.
1. Goonj -

What it is : Goonj is a Non-Profit Organisation headquartered in Delhi, India which undertakes disaster relief, humanitarian aid and community development in parts of 23 states across India.
What you can contribute : Used/New garments, bed-sheets, shoes, utensils, furniture OR Monetary aid.
2. Greensole -

What it is : Greensole is an organization that recycles discarded footwear and upcycles them into fashion-first footwear.
What you can contribute : You can send all your unusable/worn out shoes to here for recycling. You can donate your used shoes in person at the collection centres they have around the nation. Unfortunately they cover just four-five states in India. But.. Shoes can be couriered to this one centre: Greensole, C/O A460 Ram Fashion Exports, MIDC, Mahape, Navi Mumbai- 400710. Plus, you can purchase brand new shoes recycled from the old ones from this site. And there are cute accessories for yourself, your kids and the delicate females you are surrounded by.
E-Waste Disposal and Recycling -
You can help recycle your unusable electronics such as mobiles, tablets, laptops, PCs by sending them over to the the e-waste recycling organisations. If you have a motherboard for example, it should be recycled, not disposed. Whereas if it's just random electronics lying around, then it should be disposed properly.
