Lightning & Speakers

Recently there was some lightning in my city and my computer was on though the internet was disconnected but then there was this huge boom and my computer restarted I thought my PC must have gotten fried (as its already happened to me 1ce but thats was with the internet wire) after that I switch on the computer check if everything is fine and it powered up properly and then I switched it on.

After this storm I power up my computer everything starts fine and then when I play a song there is no audio from the speakers(Altech AVS 300). The speakers power up fine but still no audio.

Before you blame my sound card is fried I have a pair of Sens EH250 which work absolutely fine. So can anyone tell me if this is repairable or maybe if I have to change something like the wire please do.

Also if the damage is beyond that please recommend soe good speakers below 2k.

Without taking a look, it's going to be very difficult to assess the damage. You need to have it taken to a service center.

To start troubleshooting, put your ear right up to the speaker after powering on. You should detect a faint hissing sound. This is noticeable only if there is no ambient sound. If there is no sign of life, you probably need new speakers. A faint hiss means the power chips are probably OK. I'm assuming no fuses have blown as the power is coming through.

For your other query, I really don't have answers, maybe someone else will chip in.

I guess the large amount of electrical noise created during a lightning storm killed your speakers.

The reason your PC wasn't affected is because the PSU managed to cut off the power (hence the reboot?), while the speakers were connected to the mains directly and were afforded no such relief.

I am only speculating.
