With the recent advent of the LIKE button on our forum, i think many people here must be facing a question that whether this LIKE has overshadowed REPS and people are dishing out LIKES more often and less/negligible REPS.
I am not raising this because of any personal issue since i have not made any article / review etc recently to warrant a REP for me but this is general.
Just a thought came in so decided to post here.
I know we are here for sharing information and REPS etc should not be a matter of concern but yes it is also a part of (any) forum.

Yup, agree or not but Like button did some impact on Rep. Well, I think if we use both of them generously, like "Like" button can be used to say "Thanks", "I agree", "+1", which will also implement "Posts with no value to discussion".

And if you really liked the post and that helped you or solved your problem in that situation REP the person.

So only for article/review is rep button?. Which is the rep button actually. I only seen like.

On bottom of any post you see a six ended STAR on left side of report post button. That is for adding reps.

Btw you wont see this in feedback section.

Rep button is only available for the threads in technical sub forums. It is a black star shaped button right before the Report post button at the bottom.

Likes are for individual posts, where as cumulative reps show up in each post!

So reps are what people use to judge a person, and likes to judge a post.

I always felt that the Rep system was flawed in any case.

What would happen if sumone opened up 10 fake ids and kept repping himself and other random members (for spreading) each day??

That way, one can easily garner atleast 10 reps per day... :P

So, I never bother with my own reps nor about the reps of others.

Not that I never rep anyone... I do rep people but then, I never concern myself with getting reps for myself. It's just a line of fancy green dots that serves no real purpose unless there is a system that can ensure that no fake repping happens.

Buddy when u start a new id it will have '0' rep points. Only if have above 40-50 rep points and you rep others he will get '1' rep point. If you have less than 40-50 rep points and rep others they will get only '0' points. If you 100 rep points then the person you rep will get '2' points. (There is a scale and i am not sure of the exact amounts but this is what i observed when i had repped people and recived reps.)

Plus there is a limit for no of times you can use rep in a 24 hour period (10 times i think) and you should rep 10 othesr before repping a same person again.

So your theory wont work out :)

But i would like one extra feature in Rep like the other forum.(E) There if a person is eligible to give someone say '10' rep points(You should have 500+ for that) even then he can decide how much points to rep for a post from '1-10'.

P.S: I can see that your rep green thingy says 'notable'. So when you rep ppl they will get '1' or '2' points. (Guess your points is in the 50-150 range) So there is a definite system in place and its difficult to fool the system by multiple ids.

I also think the 'like' trend has affected the 'rep' system a little.

Hmmm... Thanx for explaining... Wished I could rep you here.

And Yes... That thing on E would be useful I guess...

BTW, what happens if I rep someone with 0 rep points?? He gets 2 Rep Points?? So, if I continue repping him for no purpose (after spreading), then he'll soon be in a position to rep me back with a few rep points, right??

It's just a theory but then, people can do anything if they have free time... isn't it?? Lol :P

As for the Notable thing, I just noticed that... :P But I dunno where and how to check the Reps I have received!!! Can you pls tell me where to find the reps I have received??

All posts which deserve Reps, deserve Likes as well. Vice Versa isnt true.

While earlier we could only Rep people for their insightful/helpful posts. But Likes come into the picture when a particular post isnt good enough for a Rep, but still pretty good nevertheless. And besides, it also helps people dig up the best post in a thread, pretty useful IMHO.

@avi, i agree to you sometimes when you help others they end up giving like, but i need reps :P

This a non-issue so long as total number of likes for a user are not displayed ?

Can you see how many they have cos i can't.

I didnt get that.
If you have '0' points then when you rep the other person will get '0' point.
If you have '50' points then when you rep the other person will get '1' point.
If you have '100' points then when you rep the other person will get '2' points.

So for example if you have 100 points and you create a fake id and rep its posts then that person will get '2' points.
So you will have to rep 10 others before you can rep ur fake id and you can rep only max. 10 person in a 24 hr period. (rough nos.)
So it will take 25 days,25 posts, repping some other members posts 225 times to get your fake id 50 points. (So now when you rep your original id you will finally get 1 point in that :P)

If he really does this then he surely deserves it for the time spent on this ;)
