ya man ! Now I am not gonna write any more reviews
Then you should have mentioned "Don't like me, rep me" :P just joking here.

Jokes aside, if the motivation to write a review article is just to gather reputation points, then maybe you should have a look at your motivation again Or maybe you should write better review articles?

Usually, people who get a lot of reps get it unknowingly - that is when they help the community by way of some really good thread of theirs where they share knowledge that others find helpful.

We don't go about asking for reps or saying we wont help just because we didn't get any reps for a thread/post. Consider reps as just another way of saying thanks from people :)

So why isn't "Like" enough of a motivation? Your reviews are quite likable, :bleh:

I follow a simple rule and i have noticed that other members do this.

Rep when you have learnt something from someone. Or someone has taken efforts to help you.

It wont make sense rep on what you already know/knew imo because what if the other member crates a chain reaction of repping on the same information being posted all over?

Moreover, the rep weight increases with your rep level, and the above rule holds ground in this case.

i use 'like' so far for posts with philosophical and humorous values... (yes GT and Feedback). That is just because i have not been in pc tech section for a while since introduction of 'like'

There would be very less tech posts so far that i liked but i would be using the function while am at it in future.

This post of yours just shows that all reps you have on your profile are well deserved ones... Kudos...

@ avi: Does not writing any more reviews makes your prospects of getting repped any better?? No...

Do your part of good work for the community being selfless and reps would be immaterial... BTW, I had seen your review of the Nook but didn't rep you coz I never knew that the reps were so important for you!! Will go to the review thread and rep you now!!

EDIT: Just repped you. But again, members asking for Reps is something I really don't appreciate you see... :(

request to add 'Lame' button.

there have been quiet a lame thread in GT and Feedback off lately...

Seconded by me... :P

And also a 'Unrep' button so that when reputed members do some stupid antics, we can 'unrep' them and deduct their greenies!!

I always felt that the Rep system was flawed in any case.

What would happen if sumone opened up 10 fake ids and kept repping himself and other random members (for spreading) each day??

That way, one can easily garner atleast 10 reps per day... :P

So, I never bother with my own reps nor about the reps of others.

Not that I never rep anyone... I do rep people but then, I never concern myself with getting reps for myself. It's just a line of fancy green dots that serves no real purpose unless there is a system that can ensure that no fake repping happens.

You have to build up a reputation before your reps add weight to anyone Else's. So your theory of someone creating 10 id's to rep his primary id is fundamentally flawed. In any case, I don't think reps really matter.

As for Like's its a different thing altogether. It is just a way of showing that you agree/like some post instead of posting "+1 10 chars" or something like that. Personally I feel that a Dislike button is not out of place either. For instance 5 people may like a post, but it may be that 20 people don't like it and there should be a way to express it.

I think I can.
Very good :)

Likes is about liking its not about a numbers game and keeping up with the kumars.

Suggest they be removed from there.

Watch the number of likes given out come down and hopefully used in a sensible manner.

Yes i need that, i know what to do of it lately some annoying mods awarded me some infraction points and i want to repay it. :P

i think we should not be concerned about misuse of like button as long as there are no chics on TE posting pictures of their cute pets with colourful nail paints.

I had said about dis like about long ago. Mods we need it !

@all - thank you for giving me reps :ohyeah:

BTW see my OP of review I wasn't asking for reps, it all started with DigitalDude [ "will rep after spreading some" ] and seems everyone followed him :bleh:

Now coming to stats, I had received 24 likes and 5 reps earlier. And after this thread I got upped to four Greenies :P

And btw I wasn't gonna stop writing reviews, that was just a stone in dark, and it worked ;)

That's precisely why I am asking for the button to be made available to members... :|

U are probably gonna need it even more now after this post of yours... Coz the mods might 'reward' you with a few more infractions!!

No mate, i don't think so, we all know that mods are very kind at heart and they know that we are mischievous :P

I was thinking about something , since the "Like" button was introduced since "many" members had exceeded their reps , why not have only "like" button for them in the Tech related sections and no rep , where as the normal "non-repped" members have only the rep option ? Only in the tech sections . Whereas in the GT and Intro-lounge and the Members/Dealers/Show-Off sections the like button works the same for repped and non repped members ? I know it does sound a little ambiguous but hell! I dont know why the damn like thing was put in the first place !

- no offense :) -

i think the members who strove to earn reps are being neglected..along with their efforts to earn those reps when some members advice to dump rep system.

It is not easy to earn reps, ya it is fine to receive reps from new members but you can not express the feeling you get when repped by a senior(be it reputed or not) on this forum. It is not the number of reps that matter as a motivation at that point but the recognition of your efforts by those who have been here and contributed here more than we have.

i would not lie by saying that reps do not matter to me. but then i admit that they meant a lot more when i receive them from those whom i respect for having contributed here.

just my opinion based on what i have observed so far from the seniors.

and no i am not a senior yet.

"Like" overshadowing "Rep"?

I think yes... But theres a reason behind it... Like is more easier and convenient to give... just click on it and done... U dont get any error like "Spread some likes before giving to the same person again"... :P... U can give it to anybody whether u've received likes or not... The most annoying part about rep button is that u can't give a rep to the same person before spreading 10 points...i find it annoying but its there to reduce rep abuse...

But if someone will ask me that u like "Likes" more or "Rep"?

My answer wud b definately "Rep" :D
