Hello,

Before the like integration was implemented on a board. We had a very active and effective reputation system. It is almost dead after introducing the like integration. What i felt about old reputation system is, it was very effective. People used to work hard to get a reputation. Replies or threads were having a quality. The reputation shown on profile was good enough to judge how good the member is. It was just like a itrader rating..

I don't feel the same about "like" integration

I was just trying to remind you guys of our old yet awesome reputation system which was much effective than the current one.

Though it is not yet removed from board, it is no more than a feature which is dead.. I would like to share my opinion, can't we reintroduce reputation which will encourage users to post quality material, it is obviously gonna help the board.

Just my thoughts. My opinions can be wrong. Share your views, what you feel about it.

we had this debate long ago may times.

i feel that the like should be replaced by thanks button
Like what we have in xda? Another alternative is to put a like count in profile. Which is very easy to do so. Just a few edits.

I loved reputation system. You could give negative reputation also.

^ Though it doesn't matter, it will affect on quality of material. Another plus point would be, it will let other member know the reputation of particular member on the board. That's what I believe :-)

Link Likes to Reps as well. MODS can decide on this. After this no. likes, few Reps are added automatically by TE.. Count Likes from certain areas only.

I think the placement for the rep button is wrong. The Like button is optimally placed and also it is just a text making everybody easier to get what it means.

IMO the rep button should be placed side by side with the rep button and also it should be a text showing "add reputation" instead of a star marked icon. Most new members even doesn't know what it is and where it is!!

I feel all GT section should have likes where as other sections can have the thanks button.
Then the number of thanks received can be linked to the reputations.
So that all systems can co-exist.

I agree with the OP. likes have sort of killed the rep system.

I feel that for GT section likes are needed, for the rest, they can co exist.

+1. This sounds like an effective solution. Currently only some old members are using rep system, even them sometimes go with just the 'like' button. Earlier reputation was like a medal of honor, which can't be easily made, while the new 'like' can be earned by just cracking a big joke. Both are miles apart.
Only GT should have the 'like' button.

Completely agree with you both. We can have Reputation system in every section except Feedback, General and Market category. Reputation is something like Medal of honor as dOm1naTOr said. If a material has good quality, people will add a positive reputation. If a reply is non sense, there will be a negative reputation. This will result increase in quality posts, respect for other members. :)

Like is something which is very quick expression after reading a post. Reputation is something that member gets for his/her work :)

Thanks button is good alternative but we already have Reputation system which is very good in fact. We can re-work on reputation system to make it more interesting :)

^ I think the best idea would be replacing "Like" button with "Add a Reputation" or "Give a honor" in every section except General, Market and Feedback. :)

^ As far as I know about forum management. It is very complex to merge two addons/plugins together. I know it can be done but needs sort of coding. Keeping them separate will be good idea. We'll have LIKES in General Sections and Reputation in technical sections.. :)

Actually the reputation system is dying, not just on TE but on every other forum. If you look at various forums systems too, they hardly give importance to rep system.

How about we show two like counts. Name one as likes and other as thanks.

1. Likes = count of likes received in non technical sections

2. Thanks = count of likes received in technical sections

But in that case, one can create many fake IDs and thank himself, unlike rep, where one can give rep only he has rep by himself, and has to spread reps before giving to same one again. Thanks can lead to corruption.

how about Thumbs UP and Thumbs down this is also a cool idea, like button is also good but a bit undetectable most of the newcomer's will have problem to find it. IMO

Cant agree with that, as if even one member likes a post, it will be specified under the post content. So they might think, how can them too give the like for the post... and there it goes to the right 'like' button.

But you never know if a post has received reps, unless you are the OP or its a review thread.

I don't think it really matters. A member who wants to post quality information will anyway do so regardless of reps/likes. Btw I hate the position of rep button. I remember once I actually 'reported abuse' instead of adding reps for a post.

As I've already said. Thanks is great alternative for existing reputation system. At least it means, material posted my member is valuable and reader wants to thanks him/her for that. This shows some respects unlike LIKE :)

If somebody really wants to waste time in creating fake ID and thanking himself, let him do. Remember, this is not an iTrade Rating.. :) (Ooops, I miss it so badly :()

It's not about expectations of member who is posting quality material. It's about showing some respect to the material he shared on board. Getting respect for hard work is really a good thing man.
