@OP, this is an ancient discussion. But i agree with you.

@Renegade, i like your idea, that will be some what refreshing. Can it be made in this way that a certain number of thanks (say 10) can be redeemed for 1 rep point, and we know that 100 rep points increases the rep-meter by one notch.
So that would be fair IMO.

Also this can be implemented in the coming forum maintenance period.

Its better to include like hack in general, market category and thanks hack in rest of the sections. Easy and quick. If te staff get a time. They can think about thank count to rep conversion. Sorta php coding and mysql modification can make it possible, but it will need a time..

Seems unlikely. Can be taken up post the update. Most that can be done in short notice is rename 'like' to 'thanks' globally.

Coversion for all the members will take ages if there is no import, export feature on a hack (havent checked personally), manual conversion deals with database manipulation which is pretty risky and lengthy unless we prepare a script.

^ The rep system will exist, but since it is being negated. its an alternative to bring back rep system.Moreover, the thanks system will only be in the technical sections.
 
^^ Then it should be implemented from now onwards , because even in the technical sections all the likes or thanks are != reps.
 
Thanks can be compared to reps if we think wisely.. Reputation is something that we give as a honor. Thanks is the same..

Like is something that comes in my mind very quickly after reading, watching material. You can say if material is enjoyable you like it..

How about we show two like counts. Name one as likes and other as thanks.
1. Likes = count of likes received in non technical sections
2. Thanks = count of likes received in technical sections

I like the rep button instead of likes. I am regular poster of TE any many more like me but we have not encouraged by our member of TE by rep.
Am not agree that another forums has a dying rep system. My join date of TE and a another forum is same but I am getting like as well as rep point for good posting.
 
Anyone who is not happy with the current like/rep system and the fact that they both are same now, please understand that neither are we.

Unfortunately our current software poses this limitation so we have to live with it till we figure out something.

Can you put the like count or some rep meter kinda thing below avatar? Like we had in the past..

Right now it's not visible unless you go to the user's profile - correct me if I am wrong.
