Hi,

Looking to learn Unix/Linux. I have a Windows XP PC (File system NTFS). I wish to install some kind of emulator program that will allow me to run Linux from within Windows without rebooting. Any suggestions?

note that cygwin is only a bash shell for windows, not a desktop

Oops! I didn't know that. I have already started the net installation which is 82% done. I might as well install it anyway.

What are the alternatives with Desktop GUI? If I understand correctly, Wubi requires reboot to run. Virtualbox seems to be too generic & heavy (Am I wrong?)

cygwin will keep on asking & downloading packages from net for testing softwares.

I didnt like it though.

Did u try wubi-installer ?

Virtualbox or some other virtualization software is probably what you want. But if you want to try something different give coLinux a shot.
