hi,
Can some one please guide me to the solution for the problem i am facing .I have fedora core 4(i386) running on my athlon 64 bit pc and i got a nvidia 6200 tc pci express graphics card. I installed the nvidia drivers recently and it worked for the first time that is the nvidia logo came up during boot up.Then after subsequent boot up the logo never came up moreover when i am using the system the screen gets distroted that is the screen goes white or totally black i got to move the mouse cursor to get back the icons.so is there any sort of solution to this any help would be appriciated.:(

Thank you.

Dude, It would be of some help if you could tell us something about the drivers that you have installed.

AFAIK, there are both RPMs and Nvidia Binaries for your card, there are some issues with the RPMs with the 6200, it is recommended that you use the latest Binaries instead. I guess version 1.0.76xx or later ones.

The 1.0.76xx series also have glx2.0 support, if i am not wrong. this should solve your problem.

Another thing is that, if your system needed to be forced to shut down right after the installation of the drivers, that could also result in the improper functioning of the drives, so a clean install (of the drivers wonly) might help.

I am not much of a linux person, so my knowledge is limited, others might be able to help you more - bu then, the versions of the drivers and all would let them help you better.

Post your xorg.conf file here. It must have a resolution compatible with you monitor and video card. Also make sure that you are running the nvidia binary module(get it from nvidia's site) and not the nv module as the driver.

speaking of linux drivers...downloaded the run file from the nvidia site, booted into runtime mode 3 , installed them and then it seems i have to config my xorg/xf86config files...this is where i am facing a problem..i cant find either of the above mentioned files and my FC3 is still stuck at 1024x768.

any help guys?

xorg/xf86config files are in /etc/X11/

but since u are in fedora I think the command system-config-xfree86 shud work

(do this in graphical mode)

If that does not work try system-config-display (more likely to work with FC3 but again, I have't used FC3 for a long time).

Yaaaaaaaaay:hap2: say hello to high resolutions in FC3..thanx a lot kingkrool:D

now..one more help pls..cant figure out the configs of the lan..i mean..i need to browse net and my comp is on a Lan..i gave all static ips, DNS, hosts n all..but still cant connect...pls help :)

Do you have two network cards by any chance?

Pls post detialed config of ur network cards + network and I should be able to help you out. But stricty speaking, that shud be a separate thread.

hey kingy, pls help me setup my LAN card :D itys a Marvell onboard gigabit ether net card...

well....gfx probs :S

installed nvidia driver..changed vesa to nvidia in xorg.conf....added 1280x1024, 1600x1200 in the same. but i get no better display.max is 1024x768..

ugh..1024x768, 60Hz...eyes strained real fast..:(

Did you try configuring from system-config-display? Generallythe easiest.

Unfortunately, u guys are using FC3 I think, which is the worst FC with regards to gfx. There are major probs with their implementation of XFree86.

FC4 is good I hear. And Even FC 1 and 2 cud detect most hardware better.

Or are u using slackware as suggested by ur siggy? For that u will have to ask ujjwal for help, cos I ain't never used it

it doesnt have support for NTFS right?? i got slack primarily because it has the latest KDE...

maybe i shud try FC for once...

tried a trick suggested by Chaos..didnt work...i give up..1024 60Hz sooo sucks i cant watch the desk for more than 5 mins without my eyes watering....

i'll try to get FC4 asap....
