Re: The *Request* Thread
I disagree... General talk is for rants and people can rant about anything under the sun unless it's not illegal (like say talking about beheading someone or abusing someone).
Different people have different opinion and in a public place everyone would like to speak his mind. I remember one of my thread about jokes on religion was removed after someone specifically reported it. For god's sake those were just some jokes! And they included every religion. There is no malice on my part. Every culture across the world, every society has jokes on religion (including Muslim society). Even atheists make fun of their lack of faith. but it was the first time I saw that someone was hurt by such a trivial matter. And honestly, I put a spoiler saying that anyone whose sensibilities can hurt should not read those jokes. Yet the person in question went on not only to read the jokes but he also found them *hurting*
As people would like to believe - given that I wear my atheist credentials on my sleeve - I am NOT disrespectful to anyone who believe in religion or anyone's religion. I understand that people need to have faith. I understand how it can help people and how it can be your source of strength. I see it all around me. But I also understand some people don't need faith and I also see how it can be a cause of misery and suffering.
Banning something is NOT an answer. Banning something means acknowledging something. Ignoring is a better idea. After all nobody is forcing you into the threads that can hurt your sensibilities. It's not that people are shouting their opinions in loudspeakers and the voice will reach your ears. Just don't read the comments. Just don't enter the threads. For example, I I don't find P2P or Open Source threads interesting. But I don't seek a ban on them. I just ignore them.
The Sorcerer said:Can we have a complete ban on politics and any talks relating to any religion- even in general? Some people will say any crap they want and term it as "Freedom of speech" and some will say something on a public forum that they believe in for they are an atheist but it does hurt other people's sentiments.
