Forum Feedback Locked threads !!

Its because Tapatalk is disabled  :D just kidding

Yeah the "discussion threads" tend to become a mishmash of everything and becomes a nightmare to navigate it to find only the info you're looking for. So you have one post talking about screen protectors and the next one about a ROM, and after that about file explorer. Best to keep threads separate for separate topics of discussion :)

I was wondering where the Lumia 520 thread vanished. Most improper of you guys to arbitrarily lock threads that are 15 pages long on a wild notion you woke up with one morning.

HINT - If it was a problem, it wouldn't be 15 pages long! Please open that thread.

Mate, they dont need to justify to you why they are locking the threads.

On a more serious note, Most of the discussions that are carried out in a discussion thread will never happen if you need to create a new thread for that.

I dont think that's how TE works and i've been here for some time. This is most surprising.

Agree, i was also wonedring why those threads got locked.

This anti-OT slavish devotion is more appropriate to a help forum than a discussion board.

The best discussions i've been in were usually OT and broad. Course this depends on the quality of the posts.

Then the mods say get back on topic, and people do it. Then it goes OT again, back & forth in a natural manner. There is a flow here.

WE ARE NOT BOTS , WE ARE HUMAN!

I did give an explanation. If you're annoyed that you can't sit in your loo and post on tapatalk, there's no reason to be a jackass about everything.

Ok here's a simple challenge. Let's say I'm looking for a case cover for SGS3. Time yourself and tell me how fast I can find the needed info from the 2 threads below :-
1. http://www.techenclave.com/community/threads/case-for-samsung-galaxy-s3.151416/
2. http://www.techenclave.com/community/threads/samsung-galaxy-s3-discussion-thread.130527/

Its not about OT. Its about 'threads' of discussion. Would you make one thread for all routers knowing that different people have different requirements? ;)

Ha! you would get me with that now right :) Every situation is different with routers like homes are.

But its not a thread for all phones but a thread for a particular phone. Like a catch all. A discussion about that phone.

About 'thread's of discussion i've seen 2 and even 3 avenues being pursued within the same thread broadly speaking with no problems. All the mods say is get back on topic and it rights itself. They aren't too strict unless its goes out of hand. But that's a judgement call and dependent on the people posting. Easier with adults than kiddies.

Thats a prime phone. Nobody makes threads for covers of everyday low budget phones. I don't think you grasp the concept here. There will always be a trade off depending on from where you are coming. What if someone wants to know all the discussion on one phone? Like I want to buy a 520. Where do I go and check for everything that is regarding that phone? Do I search 50 threads or do I go to one?

Will there be more people considering and researching a phone worth 10k or will there be more people considering cases worth 100bucks?

The forum has features to search the threads and the titles. So whats the big deal?

Secondly the point is, even if you want to close threads, you should ask the members if there is X reason for closing threads or would it be okay. It feels kind of autocratic and sneaky. I dont say its not for the right reasons, Its for reasons you thought were right.(I for one believe that the intent was good.) But seriously, don't pull ninja moves for whatever reason :P

No, mods don't have to ask anybody if they want to close a thread.

Live with it.

Its not a democracy. This is a private joint. They can show anybody the door without even giving a reason.
I remember it differently. What makes you say that?

Its how these places work. They give you a place to vent here. In other places they'd have shut this thread down already for having the temerity to question a mod's decision.

The phone case was just an example, you can find something equivalent for the 520. Also IMO people researching phones for 10K just start a thread in the mobile buying advice section. Its only after they finalise their purchase that they would check that phone's related threads.

.. one thread with 500 posts?

Which option is easier? :-
1. Search for '520' and skim through the titles of 50 threads and then choose which one to open and read
or
2. Read all 500 posts and sifting through it to make sense of the jumbled discussion

I get your point as well - for people who have bought xyz phone long back and religiously follow xyz phone discussion thread from the start, the thread acts a sort of 'news feed' for it. The point is, if a member joins the party late, he will need to go through tons of pages/posts - which lets be honest, he won't do, and might just end up repeating a question which would have been answered just one page back. Its even worse for troubleshooting issues, since most people google for errors and if they come across a single thread its easier than wading through a lot of posts to find the answer.

Phew, looks like you can't even volunteer for free on a forum without the RTI act being pulled on you :P
But if you seriously want to be a part of the process, send a PM to Renegade and ask to be a mod, its that simple :)

@Crazy_Eddy Let me site you an example. I just got a L520 and had a few queries. I read the thread at TDF and asked one question which came to my mind. I never started a thread here because it was more not worthy of being a thread.

I understand your point of view but I dont agree to it.

BTW, I had another issue with S3 which I wanted to post in that thread. A little bit of ownership experience which now I cant share.

I'm not sure why people feel shy to start threads. There's no such thing as not worthy of being a thread, even if you want to ask where the power button on the phone is, you can start a thread. If its a query you have, there is a high possibility that there are lots of other people who will have the same query.

Just to add ideally the discussion threads can be left open to post ownership views on the phone, but unfortunately everyone were mixing in troubleshooting issues as well. Anyway, you can use the specs and features discussion : http://www.techenclave.com/communit...-specs-and-features-discussion-thread.151516/

But I don't understand the reason for such active moderating? If members dont like it, they wont post stuff there and it will die. If members cant find a solution, they will make a new thread then. Whats the point of closing anchor threads for each phone?

People can search threads, they can search inside a thread too. I just did and didnt find any issue in doing so.

If I had the time, i'd definitely mod. I already did a 2 year stint at one place and I know how much time and effort it takes. Its just that instead of relying on one persons opinion, multiple opinions about a simple thing like these helps you see more than one angle and members feel involved. Anyway, I think i've made all the arguments I thought made sense. Hope you guys rethink it.
