Logitech has finally introduced a veritable successor to the trusty old MX518.

Logitech MX518 gets long-deserved successor, G400 - TechSpot News

For starters, the optical sensor has been upgraded from 1800DPI to 3600DPI, which will undoubtedly prove handy in fast-paced twitch-oriented games. Naturally, DPI can be adjusted at any point courtesy of dedicated hardware buttons, and you can configure the four individual increments to your liking.
Since it's using a newer version of the MX518's sensor, Logitech says you can expect the same tracking consistency with less than 0.5% cursor-to-hand movement variance at up to 140 IPS. The company has also pushed the report rate from 125 to 1000 reports a second (a 1ms response time -- the quickest USB can handle). Speaking of USB, the G400's cable is thinner and 25% lighter for less restrictive movement.
Logitech has also integrated the same button programming software used by its G-Series keyboards and the G13 Advanced Gameboard. This grants the G400 access to Logitech Gaming Software's drag and drop interface, automatic game detection, macro, and scripting capabilities -- not to mention the ability to share macros with G-Series keyboards. Logitech Gaming Software v8.0 includes profiles for 210 games.

The G400 is coming to the US on June 19 for $49.99

Let those douchebags at Logitech give us back the reliability of the trusty old 1600dpi MX518 first :|

In fact, there are still sellers on eBay with the 1600dpi one - grab them while they last :P

^care to explain what is the problem with the non-1600dpi MX518? I'm not sure which MX518 I have, but I absolutely love using it.

Reliability of the legendary original! They made the 1800dpi one cheaper and ended up making a plasticky, unreliable mouse. The old one would go on for years without an issue but am yet to see a 1800dpi one last for more than 2 yrs :@

+1.... The rubbery quote on my MX518 started peeling & Logitech has acknowledged the fact. Though this does not hinder the functionality of the mouse but just the cosmetic feel...

I always wondered why the MX518 was ( the only peripheral ? ) cheaper here than in the US . At NE for eg. It was approx $40 + shipping. Anyone bought one there in the last year or two ?

ahh.. lets hope mine lasts way longer than 2 years. Not sure which version is mine, but, it been running great for almost 1.5 years now. But, even if it goes bad, i'll probably buy the same thing again. :P

Wtf, my mx518 recently had issues with the cable connectivity at the joint where the cable connects to the mouse.Eventually it died.Guess which version it was :@
I'm using an m100 as temporary substitute which btw has way more functionality than expected from a Rs.300 mouse.

I really hope this mouse turns out to be good. Been using the MX518 since 2005. Have bought the original 1600dpi and then in late 2008 i bought the 1800dpi which died within few months and then i bought another 1800dpi which is lasting till now. Currently the one i am using is more like a 3rd revision of the MX518 iirc.

Lets see if i can get the G400 for review.
