My new optimum one just arrived a few hours ago. Got an extra sweet price tag of 8712! Have never used Android before but I am comfortable with GNU/Linux, FreeBSD. I am feeling very uncomfortable with Android. Seems very different from GNU/Linux. Does anyone have tips tricks which could be of help to me? What are the similarities and differences between GNU/Linux and Android? What apps should I get for a more Linux like experience? Is there no way to uninstall LG crap with rooting?

While Android is Linux-based, you won't find much similarities there. It is a mobile platform, so don't expect PC-like experiences there.

Enjoy Android on your phone, keep Linux/BSD for your PC.

Does anyone how to get stock LG 2.2.2 rom with root access? All the guides say only Stock 2.2 is rootable and I will have to downgrade. After downgrading to 2.2 and rooting, how do I get LG stock 2.2.2 with root?

@ hA1d3R's The market price of O1 is 10300. You can get for 8700 from letsbuy using reliance coupon.

^^ The newer firmware doesn't support rooting. You need to downgrade to older firmware (V10B, I think) using Odin & then use z4root to root the phone.

More info is available at XDA forums.

I rooted the phone, installed clockwork mod and tried two custom roms :- CM7 beta 6.2 by mik and Light 2.2.2. CM7 beta 6.2 works very well but still has many bugs. The most major one is that USB tethering does not work. Light 2.2.2 is just stock LG stripped of all the junk, but there is no precevied increase in response or performance. Going to try Nessy #Fenice which the author claim is very fast and still has very low battery drain.
