Hi guys,

I am looking for a good, stable Internet connection in Kopar Khairane, Navi Mumbai Area.

Either connection should be non-FUP or must have High Download limit(say 80gb atleast).

Also, budget is 1000rs pm.

Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks
Haris

Just get whatever local lan internet is available. Usually it will be ssv/d-vois/i-on. Avg 550-650 bucks a month for 1mbps unltd no fup. downtime will range from 0-5 days a month. cant help it when they run OFC through trees...

I'm using wnet in nerul and it's awesome. 550/month for 1mbps and at night (1230-0900) it's 2.8mbps. downtime avg 3 days a month total. this is not 3 whole days. bits and pieces more like.

OR get mtnl broadband if you can get a landline where you stay. super stable once the line is clean and clear.

1 more question, how are the latest 8 mbps plans from MTNL ?
http://mtnlmumbai.in/index.php/8mbps-plan

Also do I need modem or direct RJ45 will be feeded to PC from MTNL.
And WiFi router type/price, since I don't want to pay monthly rent.

Haven't used mtnl is a long time so i can't give exact details on current pricing, but i CAN say that it's the most stable connection once all line issues, if any, are taken care of.

Typicall, there's an adsl modem into which your 1-pair phone line goes. Out comes an rj-45 to your pc's lan. Some modems have usb out too. Wifi modem from mtnl itself is sometimes hard to get. For prices check online shopping sites like flipkart. I would recommend renting the modem from mtnl and buying your own wifi router, because if the modem gets damaged due to lightning strikes etc. mtnl will replace it.

Finally I am going with ssv/d-vois/i-on one.
I have checked its performance and got review from my friend which was using it for past 8 months.
Downtime is generally 2-3 days in a month......in packets.
They have lowered their SLA for ticket resolution, now ranging between 6-8 hours.

Going for 990rs plan(including taxes) - 10Mbps till 40Gb, after that 2 Mbps Unlimited.

Let me know, If I am missing something.

Thanks
Haris

Go for it man. Not many options anyway. They have announced new plans from march 1st with the weird pricing and limits. I also heard that DC++ downloads and uploads are counted in the MBs, so confirm and keep that in mind if using DC.

Finally using ION @ 10Mbps.

Speedtest giving 8.5 to 9.5 Mbps while download is running @ full throttle ~ 1 MBps to 1.2 MBps in transfer rate :)

Now 40 GB looks like very less :(

Edit :
Correction for previous post.
Plan cost me 900rs only(prepaid) inclusive of all taxes for a month time.

Awesome!

My isp (wnet) also upgraded their night speed. Earlier the Rs. 550/month 1mbps was giving 2.8mbps from 0035 to 0900. Now I get 4.8mbps from 0105 to 0900. That's about 16gb download a night.

Isps should have combo offers with free hdds...

Hello Guys !!

I recently discovered a weird flaw in D-Vois/SSV/Ion Internet package, which is a huge benefit to me :D

I have taken plan of 10Mbps till 40Gb, after that 2 Mbps Unlimited...

For this month plan, I have already used my 40 gb limit and regular surfing and downloads are happening at usual 2 Mbps speed.

BUT, Recently when I am downloading or updating android apps on my phone and tablet, speed is coming beyond 20 Mbps for apps download/update.

I was really surprised to check that, I tried downloading as many apps on my phone and tablet(till memory is filled) and speed is consistent between 15 - 22 Mbps.

I took this sudden burst of speed to the next level, as an element of surprise and to check with some options and stricter rules.

I starting normal download on PC and opened a youtube video on browser to keep the internet very busy......and started downloading android apps, still same result.

Now I checked with other google services i.e. youtube -- its also working fine and giving good speeds and quick buffering(PC and Android device both)

Last I tried with tubemate app, keeping internet busy again and downloading youtube FHD videos, still same result.

I don't know how its happening but its great to get 20Mbps+ speed on 2Mbps plan :p

Anybody else utilizing the same flaw for heavy youtube video download ???

It's not a flaw mate. Just like youtube and the btcache servers, google play store is also cached. I can subscribe to a 384kbps connection and still get 6mbps on play store on wnet. I think itunes store is also cached. Don't think windows phone store is...

I think i forgot to mention it on this thread, but did elsewhere, but this is one major advantage lan based internet has over dsl/cable. Also dc.

Thanks for pointing out that change in package julian.

I miss the day of 5net. Pay for 256 kbps Rs 340 only per month. Get super fast youtube caching, both android and app store chached, very good hub, etc.
Now minimum is like Rs 475 i guess. That is totally worth it.
5net youtube caching is like light years ahead of SSV. I could even stream 4k videos. And now on SSV find it tough to stream 480p videos on youtube. Some videos are cached, most are not.
This is terrible for a youtube freak like me.
Even live streaming, 5net streams azubu at 1080p and youtube at same very easily. SSV is damn pathetic at live streaming.

I will jump to the 5net wagon if it comes to my place.

Oh....Now I come to know its part of their service.

Actually None of these services are present in Delhi/NCR plans, I recently migrated to Navi Mumbai !!
So its good to know about this.

What are btcache servers ?
How can i download torrent from these?
Please let me know !!

The btcache servers work basically like another bt peer but on the high speed local network line. my isp has a certain amount of capping per connection, in my case it's ~1.4mB/s, so if I have 3 btcaches sharing a file, then i get 4.2mB/s when i download that file. You can't really specifically select what files to download from a btcache server (you can use http://torbox.net/ but it doesn't really work all that well). How it works is say if i download a file via bt and the btcache 'decides' to cache it (don't know exactly how it selects specific torrents, maybe file size or popularity), then my bt client will be uploading at high speed to that btcache server. Then later, if you decide to download the same torrent, the btcache will share that with you at high speed. Most popular torrents are btcached, like yify and publichd etc.

Ahhh after having the good face of the SSV, now facing bad face too.

Internet is down for more almost 3 days......don't know that is it router issue or what?

But sadly, internet was disconnecting after every 1/2hr and then reconnect only when router is switched off/on.

Tried reset, but lost all the settings.......Service guy came and filled all config details, worked only for 3 hours, still down...

Router is freshly RMAed and brand new sealed pack was given in return.

Lets see where it ends!!

This is pretty much standard for all ISPs i think. When it works it's good, but if you have issues, then god help you. I've had similar problems right from sify in 2003, then ssv, reliance (wireless worked almost flawlessly), now wnet. They all fail at some point. The least downtime i've had is with mtnl, but i'm sure some of the folks here with line issues will strongly disagree ;-)

The problem in common with almost all ISPs is the crappy last mile. Stringing ethernet cable and OFC through trees etc. The ssv guys actually had used the lightning conductor strips on the terraces to tie their cables and when lightning struck, a lot of people had fried lan cards and even the isp lost many switches.

I think i forgot to mention it on this thread, but did elsewhere, but this is one major advantage lan based internet has over dsl/cable. Also dc.

It depends on the ISP. If ADSL or the cable operator also does caching, works great. Of course, they need to also modify the rules for the same.

As for DC, I dont like it that much.

I just moved to vashi (sector 14, mg complex) and my options are hathway and ssv/dvois/ion/wtftheycallthemselvesthesedays.

Can someone suggest which is better among the two?

NO idea of Hathway, but iON BB has good 4-5 days of downtime in 30 days of plan.

Since its prepaid plan, you can't do anything except complaining.

Service boys comes in 4-5 hours after complaining else next day & yes Sundays off for them.

And rest of the days, BB works like Charm......No complains :)

Guys need one quick help. I have recently subscribed to ssv ion at kopar khairne . I already have a belkin wireless modem and router - but the ssv ion guys is refusing to give us the service and configuration and just saying that we need to get a dsl modem... which is a real sham. This wasnt told to us before and now I am stuck with basically 2k investment.. I saw some forums where there was a workaround to run wifi off my adsl modem.. any help will be appreciated

Hi Julian,

is there any broadband vashi (am i residing at sector 12) who would provide 80 GB download and minimum 20 Mbps speed, i am currently using i-on the tariff plan which you updated last year has been changed and now they reduced the GB on monthly plan when i took this connection it was 100 GB 15 Mbps, they changed it now , they still offer high GB but that is only available for 3 moths plan which cost more, and the service they offering is became unstable and even if you raise a ticket with them for speed related concern they wont send any engineer or take it very lightly , i am working from home and using 2 laptops (personal and professional) i am facing the low speed issue (though i am on 20 Mbps plan) it get dropped to less than 1 mbps at times and this happen almost all days , could you suggest me any service provide who service is stable and worth of money . all i need is 80GB or more with 15 Mbps or more speed.
