Hello Everyone..

My Prof has asked me to suggest a laptop for him...
His Budget is quite high.. anything around 1 lakh..

Obviously he isnt into gaming.. He works a lot on Matlab.. Labview and Such Simulation Software...

So i was thinking that he will need an Nvidia Quadro laptop..
or an Ati (oops AMD  ) Firepro series..

Am not quite sure whether Quadro is better than ATI (seesh... shud have said amd)
(i guess old habits die hard :( Wish AMD knew this)

Anyway i was looking at Lenovo W series and Hp elitebook series

Newegg.com - HP EliteBook 8740w(WH274UT) NoteBook Intel Core i5 520M(2.40GHz) 17.0" Wide SXGA+ 2GB Memory DDR3 1333 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi ATI FirePro M7820

I loved this one i saw.. though it may be over the budget...

I need your suggestions as i have absolutely no idea about workstation Graphics or laptops..

He would like the laptop to be light also.. but not some performance drained ultrathin

Hope you guys can help..

Want to know if having Nvidia is better than Ati for runnning matlab etc..

I heard matlab now has CUDA support...

PLease help me out guys

I would not consider HP especially for such high-end use. Their support is despicable. I would strongly recommend the Dell Precision M6500. Its a little over budget but I am sure he can negotiate especially considering he is a professor and hence I assume has a University affiliation.

for the given budget, Dell precision is the way too go. Check with Raj404 on the forum as he can get EPP discount of 8%.

Alternatively call Dell on their toll free number and get a quote (with education discount) direct to your professors university email ID.
