That's right, looking for a decent, non-expensive cooling solution for my hot pentium 530 Prescott (pun intended). Don't tell me to try AS5 because I have, but after a month, the temperature starts to gradually rise and show their true prescott colors (lol).

So you know, after applying AS5 load temps are 55 @ 3.25ghz OC, which is fine, but it goes as high as 70 after a month... I can't keep applying AS5 every 30 days.

Anyway, willing to purchase either a new or used (no more than 6 months) cooling solution here... no high end stuff because I'm setting up an AMD rig in the summer, and this is a temporary solution.

Later!

Are you buying only from India?

You can try the XP-90 from SideWinder with an LGA-775 Bracket.

But i must warn you. I have to apply the Thermal Paste every month too.

Else im happy with it. :).

LOL, with the xp-90 you apply AS5 every month? In that case, I'd rather keep the current intel heatsink/fan and continue applying AS5 every month :)

This is sorta strange :S. Never heard of this "Apply AS5 monthly" ritual before. I AS5'ed my A64 once when I put my XP-90 and have never bothered to reapply since then. Strangely temperatures are more or less the same!

With a good heatsink, even I thought that would be the case, but goldenfrag's experience is disappointing. Maybe it's just an Intel problem that we can never overcome in the near future - we know the power consumption and peak temperatures for pentiums are way ahead of the competition :p

Edit: When I get home, let me try restoring the stock clockspeeds to see if it makes a slight difference in temps (probably not). Oh, and can anyone tell me what behavior is triggered by increasing/decreasing cpu voltage? Never tried it, but I notice the graphic gauge says it's 1.4v but the actual numeric values (where you can adjust voltage) says it's 1.360.

Increasing CPU voltage helps overclocking your CPU further once you hit a limit with the Default voltage , and it has a corresponding increase in heat output (not a good idea for precotts!).

Of course at stock speeds, you could decrease CPU voltage a bit to reduce power usage and heat ouput i.e. CPU temps would decrease. You would need to keep an eye on stability though, as too low a voltage and the CPU becomes unstable.

same here. i too never put thermal paste again n again. i just put it once & there has been no need to apply it again. talking about amd.

Thanks eddy, that is helpful... I'm down to stock clockspeeds until I fix my overheating issue so I'll try dropping the voltage down 1 notch.
