Please suggest a good UPS for my PC. Should be able to handle a load of up to 900~1000W. I guess something between 1500~2000VA is required. Budget is max 20k. Protection takes precedence over backup time.

Get an APC with a LED display

APC builds quality UPSs. Just get any 2kva from them with a LED display

In a similar situation, shopping for UPS though I'm leaning towards 1KVA UPS. Have put my faith in APC this time after using an assembled 600VA ups thats lasted 10 years.

The smart ups line is a pure sinewave UPS. The SUA1000XL 1kva one is 11.5k without battery and with 20 min backup was about 2k more the last time I checked. I decided to get the one with provision for external batteries.

So you should be able to get the 1.5KVA version within your budget

I have read a few complaints that the fan used is a bit loud when it charges the battery

edit - found this site where you can check prices http://agsystemsindi...pc_sua1500i.php

and another useful old thread http://www.techenclave.com/topic/451740-which-ups-will-handle-this/#entry896927

get it from an authorised apc dealer. call apc on their toll free number and tell them your'e interested in purchasing the smart ups. they will give you sales person's number or someone from apc will call you up same day.

The prices they offer are a little on the higher side.

But this is offset by the fact that you get the entire line-up details including rare 700VA and 800VA options.

^^ Sadly, I don't have a regular local PC vendor anymore after I moved to hyderabad. I get most of the stuff online (mostly from Prime or ITDepot) and neither of them have it. Also there is the question of shipping a 27Kg UPS.

Calling APC is also an option, but I think they would try to tell me the stuff at MRP which I guess can be anywhere from 3~5k more than market prices.

I can go up to CTC, but I don't know anyone reliable/decent or anyone who stocks APC over there. Most of the dealers over there are extremely noobish and inconsistent. Last time I went there to pick up a Core i5 2500k and a stick of DDR3 RAM, they were trying to sell me a 3k el cheapo motherboard to go with the 12k CPU. When I told them that I don't need a motherboard, they were telling me that I cannot run the CPU without the motherboard and a hard disk..

.

So are there any reliable dealers in CTC that stocks APC and sells at decent prices.

Well I was staying there ~3 years back and got my current set-up from there and the shops which are worth a dekho are --

1) Shweta Peripheral

2) Arun Computers [can be a little hard to locate, it is adjacent to CD World a shop which retails original games / assorted software]

3) Bhumika Peripherals [these guys are in the basement]

Hope this solves your problems, Cheers!!
