First, the introduction , I am 32 , married and I have a full time job.

Lately, I have been losing interest in video-games. I have maintained a gaming desktop so far, and I absolutely don't use it for anything else.

The PC broke, probably the motherboard. Most of the parts are still under warranty but for some unknown reason, I am NOT inclined to get them repaired and then back into the action.

I have almost made up my mind to sell the parts off. That means, end of gaming for me.

I feel bad to let it go but at the same time, I feel it's okay to let go. But I am not exactly sure why.

Is there anyone on the forum who is (was) in the same boat?

Man, I can't even play console video games anymore. It is such a PITA to plug in the console and all the wires. Especially when I am on my PC 24x7 (or rather 16x7). On my PC I can have a video running on one screen and troll TE on the other (like I'm doing right now)

Same thing with movies. I rarely watch movies at home anymore. Probably a sign of ADD, but I can't sit in one place for 2+ hours. I's rather prefer a 20 minute TV show.

Edit: Handheld video games I still enjoy occasionally. Lying under the quilts and playing Pokemon during chilly December/ January is a great pleasure! :)

I started losing interest in games since my first year of engineering. I still play games but I mostly do a speed run with cheats. Witcher 3 and life is strange are the only single player titles I actually enjoyed in the past 3 years.

I lost interest in gaming because of my job as a game tester for 6 years, when I got home the last thing I wanted to do was hold the controller again. Turning some hobbies into your profession isn't a great idea kids.
2014 being the worst year in gaming didn't help either (moar sequels, generic games, lack of innovation, DLC's, microtransactions) and I ended up selling my gpu as well.
But my mojo has been slowly returning and I've been playing a lot of great indie games because that's where the innovations really are at, not to forget they run great on onboard graphics :p
I have a nice wishlist and have already bought most of the titles I've missed out on in the last 2 years, Just killing time playing smaller games while I wait for a next gen gpu to launch.

@Faraz @Chaos I had a a real frustrating time with Life is Strange, I played it for around 18 hours in 2 sessions and then I reached a point where the game crashes immediately after a cutscene is triggered. I had to upload the save file and ask someone on the subreddit to play and provide me the updated files after the next autosave. Before someone could send it to me my mobo conked off and I had to send it for RMA leaving me w/o a pc. It's been 2 weeks since then and I'm still stuck on a cliffhanger :p
Someone helped me out with the saves so I've got that going for me at least.
This crash btw, came across a lot of people who faced the same problem. Did you guys encounter it by any chance ?

Like OP I am also 32, married, full time job - and losing interest in gaming.

I have a decent spec'ed PC which have no game other than CS:GO - which I have hardly played in last 6 months.
The last game I played the Xbox360 was far Cry 4 and it hasn't been put on since.

Gaming now means, playing few races in Real Racing or few stages of Angry Birds 2 - mostly in the toilet. :P :D

I think this lack of interest can be attributed to the non availability of AAA titles. These days, the spacing between the release of blockbusters has increased manifold. I recall few years back, we used to have 1-2 big budget games each month. Now the publishers are focussing more on the multiplayer aspect as compared to the single player, and this is adding to the divide. For you see, in multiplayer, in addition to a better internet connection, you need to invest more time and efforts. The publishers have also degraded the quality of single player campaigns I.e. Black Ops3 :/. Also, we haven't seen many marquee titles coming out for the current (Xbox one/ps4) which would compel us to go for an upgrade.

Anyways, I think all will change in 2016 with many great games lined up like Doom, UC4, Rise of Tomb Raider to name a few. I think we should not "hang up" our controllers yet!

It happened to me as well.
i was a avid gamer until 21 (The last game I played was GTA SA & HL2)
After that whatever i played didn't touch the bar set by those 2... fed up and left gaming (All this in 2004)
But lot f things happened..
Married have kids.. and now..
I'm 32 and my child is 7. Busy in her schooling...
Now i'm bored and the easiet way to kill time is gaming... (GTA IV, V and UC pulled me back)
But do i game a the same passion i did.. never..!!!
there are times which make you grow up and you find what is actual purpose of gaming...just to kill time...

Still in chapter 3 so yea there's a bit of time for me to reach where you are. Is the crash in anyway related to the stability of the system? Didn't read the thread other than the initial few lines as I don't want spoilers.

Like OP I am 36 years old, married, have a kid, no job what so ever since 6 years as my wifey has a full time central Govt job so I stay at home and look after my kid.
Take her to school/bring her back & make her do her homework.
Alas 2014-15 have been very bad for PC Gaming.
I am beginning to lose interest in gaming all together as I simply browse and download latest Hollywood movies in the spare time.
If at all I start to play any game I simply play upto 50% and uninstall it.
Only game I completed 100% is Witcher 3 in recent times.

Rather than interest waning, mostly it's been other things taking priority in life. Not that I don't game anymore, but the time I'm able to dedicate is very low (4-5 hrs on weekends only, that too after wife and kid have gone to sleep). Rest of the days I don't even have the inclination to complete a single episode of a series I'm watching. As someone already mentioned, my attention span has really gone down, it's difficult to finish a movie in one single go. So mostly I look for single player campaigns from the the genres I love (shooters and action adventures) that I can finish in 10-15 hrs. That's why I'm afraid to pick up any RPG. Last one I tried was skyrim and left it after 10 hrs or so after I lost track of what story and quests I was following.

do central govt pay that much that one can stay at home and live decently ? can you pm me more details.

IMO bigger problem is the lack of really good AAA titles. There are indie titles worth talking about but then they are very short (and justified given their price). Last AAA title I played was MGS V, not only it was supremely short, the price was not worth it. Then I got Rise of Tomb Raider which is less of the action adventury game it was and more RPG (god knows what is with every thing needing an upgrade path, what happened to the good old defeat boss and get abilities). Played two levels and gave up.
I recently downloaded Shadow Complex Remastered, had played the original but really enjoying it playing again (this btw is free on EPIC if any one wants to download).

Well am 30 and recently married, I lost interests in gaming as i really cant find time to manage my partner and gaming. I used to play 5-6hrs a day after my job and now i barely make it past 1 hour. I dont find a significant lack in interest, but its hard to make time to pick up something and start it when u cant dedicate time to it like before. Now i mostly stick to a few rounds of CS:GO when i can.
