Need to buy
1) DVD Writer - BenQ 1640 or that LG (what is its name) which has DVD RAM? I like he idea of DVD RAM, because I like to be able to use the thing for backing up files that I download on a weekly basis, and that are themselves updated regularly (u know, small install files, which need to be replaced whenever new versions are released)
2) 512 MB RAM, good ol' 512 MB single sided 400MHZ DDR, no OC'ing interest, will probably get transcend.
3) 450+ Watts PSU - el cheapo and reliable. Again, no OCing needed. I have asked b4, but have always put off the purchase. This time, I can not do that, as when I try to connect any extra devices (tried to connect a 3rd hdd once) myu computer dos not boot.

Finally, prices. Also darks and Apollyon, any pointers as to where I can getthis stuff if my regular guys don't have it (mainly for point 1)?

^^KK, Mumbai?

1)LG 4167 or 4163, whichever is available. About 3200-3400.

2)RAM - 2.2K for 512MB DDR400 Hynix, 2.5K for Twinmos if available.

3)Pick up the Powersafe PSUs, dunno the rate for 450W though.

I will get the stuff in Pune... that is why I asked Darklord and Apollyon.
Or did you mean to ask whether I would pick the stuff up in Mumbai. Possible. I do need to come down to Mumbai, but I think I will prefer Pune.
How are the LG DVD writers anyway? Are they good otherwise? Would I be really losing out as compared to the BenQ. My needs are light, in that I am not the sort who needs super fast burn speeds on obscure media. I will generally pick up branded stuff.. Moser Baer or Sony is what I have seen here (probably will avoid Princo unless you have something good to say abt it)

^NEVER anything good to say about Princo!

LG drives are excellent, should suit your needs just fine. Only losing out on overspeeding with the LG as compared to the Benq, go for it.

It does support DL out of the box. From what I've learnt from CDFreaks is that this drive is an excellent burner but not that good a ripper or reader when compared to a BenQ or a Pioneer.
