I am from Assam and yeah, its a common surname there.

There was some dynasty in Assam with that name - during 12/13th century.

Of my female class mate was from that caste - and my non-Assamese friends literally ROFL when they heard that first.

Everybody was, "abe kaun hai wo c***ia"

Similarly, this prestigious (really, not joking) Swedish university Lund University

I cannot imagine how those who get selected in this university share the news with their friends and relatives!

Uncle: beta, kaunse university me select hue ho?

Uncle: naam kya hai beta?

Student: um...mm...Lund university

RAND and Lund are very highly respected universities, they have very high number of Nobel laureates especially RAND. Rand was responsible for formulating the US defense strategies extensively esp during WWII. The protagonist John Nash of 'A beautiful Mind' was working for RAND including other geniuses like von Neumann.
