Storage Solutions Low SSD speeds !

So installed Win 8.1 Pro on the old SSD (Intel 320 80GB), but speeds aren't that great (specially the write speeds):

Already running the latest chipset drivers, latest SSD firmware and AHCI mode (although Windows was installed when the drive was in IDE. Later changed to AHCI). Connected to Intel SATA controllers. Anything I might be missing which could cause low speeds ?

make sure your connected to a sata 6.0gbps port. also change the sata cable and recheck

^^ Intel 320 supports SATA 3GB only (SATA 2). Changing the SATA cable ? Hmm. Will try that, Do SATA cables go bad fast ? Mine is the one supplied with the mobo (Intel DP55WG).

if its a sata 3.o gbps ssd, the speeds look fine to me. however you can try to secure erase the ssd. that should help a little. but do backups your data first

Ah. But aren't the write speeds low ? Shouldn't they be 200+ ?

not really. everybody uses atto for those speeds. do an atto benchmark and you will get the published numbers

On Anandtech and other review websites, all the AS SSD benchmarks show 160+ write speeds for Intel 320.

Dude your write speeds seem pretty normal going by the screenshots of the same drive on the web. Have a look:

^^ Hmm. Could it be that the bigger drives (120GB and up) are supposedly made faster (something like the Sandisk USB 3.0 Pendrives - larger capacities have better R/W speeds) ?
Anandtech and HardwareSecrets and Benchmark Reviews AS SSD benchmarks with the older 320s (300 and 160GBs though).
