Greetings,

I have a Seagate Free Agent GoFlex 1TB USB 3.0 1 TB External Hard Disk ( requires no external power ).

To utilize the USB 3.0 speeds I also got the upgrade cable for myself - STAE104. I have 2 USB 3.0 ports on my laptop and I tried to tranfer around 30 GB from the laptop to the computer but I am not getting speeds greater than 50 Mbps whereas I was expecting "10 times my USB 2.0 speed".

I get around 21 Mbps from my 2.0 itself so I think something is going wrong here.

Kindly shed some light as to what could be the problem.

Thanks.

Expecting 10 times the speed is unrealistic. This is a low power hard disk because it does not need external power. 70 MB/s i.e. 3.5 times USB 2.0 is the Max you can expect, typically from such drives in a sustained manner.

USB uses CPU. Keep your CPU idle for proper testing.

Turns out it is indeed 5400 RPM. Sigh what good is it for now! Will have to wait for it to catch up perhaps.
