PC Peripherals M-Audio to HT Receiver

Has anyone tried connecting M-Audio Revo 7.1 or the Audiophile 2496 to a HT Receiver like Yamaha 540 or anything similar?
My idea is to do away with an entry level cd player of Philips or Pioneer and save money on high end stuff like Harkmon Kardon or NAD or whatever
I have read the M-Audio 7.1 analog o/p does as good as high end players. Could this be true? And the Audiophile 2496 does even better.
I have also read that one has to take care of mobo EMI and the PSU has to be good to avoid transport errors. I am not a one with golden ears, so will this all matter to me. And I wont be using my ROMs for playback, will play from the HDD.
What do you suggest?

Thanks

1)What are your source files? 96KBPS MP3s will sound crappy even if you have a Wolfson 12bit DAC..Have you tried FLAC as a compression codec?

2)I've hooked up a Soundstorm system using the SPDIF to a Sony amp, getting true DD out of it. The M-Audio's OP is quite good (check extremetech for the Right Mark Audio Analyser (RMAA) results), but still, it's no match for a dedicated CD transport like an Arcam or Nad.

I already have a dedicated system with two sub woofers and two satellites. I have a Pioneer DV 366 DVD player. Reading threads on forums, looks like M-Audio Revo 7.1 or an Audiophile 2496 would do wonders. So instead of paying an unrealistic price( I am considering playes costing around 15 to 20k) in the name of duties and taxes here, for a good cd player( I am considering players costing around 15 to 20k), I thought a M-Audio based music server might be sensible and economical choice.
What do you guys say?
