Hi guys,

I just discovered the usefulness of this software and have been recommending it to friends.. (VMware didnt seem to work for me...)

I use Win XP Home with Virtual PC with win98 (SE).
Now, i have a Billion BIPAC 7000 ADSL modem, which i want to install in my Virtual PC with win98 to use broadband via this Virtual PC. the installation goes fine until it asks me to connect the modem... when i do so, the page just hangs, i think it doesnt seem to recognise the new hardware/modem....

So any idea how i could install this modem in my Virtual PC?

Thanks
Vince

Why do you need to do all that? Can't you just create a regular (virtual connection), then bridge it with the real one? That is what is (often but not always) done in VMWare.

Trust me, VMWare is far superior to Virtual PC. What sort of problems exactly did you face with it?

^^ Thanks KingKrool
But i have no idea how to do the following-> " Can't you just create a regular (virtual connection), then bridge it with the real one?"

Any info on that please ( if you dont wanna explain it at least is there a good link on the web somewhere?)

BTW i found some Norton prob while installing VMWare... will fix it and try VMWare again..

Well, this is what I do in VMWare - I never tried to do anything like this in Virtual PC.

Basically, if you go (on the host OS) to control panel>network connections, there should be some connections corresponding to VPC. You can bridge those by the standard technique. This much is clear - you should not have to install the modem within VPC. If you do, something is wrong.

Eh?

I don't seem to be able to explain.

In the host OS, you should have the regular connections, plus some related to VPC (eg. in my VMWare it says VMWare network adapter....).

Well then select one, and right click, and select bridge connections.

(This is for Win XP as the host OS, I hope that is true..)

^^Hold it mate, just installing VMWare, but during installation it says that
Error 1402 "Could not open key: hkey local machine\software\classes\richtext.richtext1\clsid. Verify that you have sufficent access to the key, or contac your support personnel."

I'll have to try to get rid of this error first.,....

Error 1402 "Could not open key: hkey local machine\software\classes\richtext.richtext1\clsid. Verify that you have sufficent access to the key, or contac your support personnel."

IMHo.. thats caused my either ur AV or firewall.. not allowing the product to install a starpup item...

this is what i Think... i had that prb.. now... i just disable my Av.. retry and enable it agn.. its solved.

hope that helps.

^^ Thanks for that tip SpyKing! Actually i WAS having a problem with my AV (i deleted it coz i couldnt uninstall it...) after your suggestion , i removed stray registry entries..
now i've installed VMWare, and am er... tweaking with it..
EDIT: Damn, it opens, but when i click on "Start this Virtual Machine" the following error pops up->

"This product has expired and your virtual machine cannot be powered on.

There is a more recent version available at the VMware Workstation Web site: http://www.vmware.com/info?id=4."

OK.... you must be running an eval version, and the virtual machine you are trying to rn is more than 3 days old... eren if the installation of VMware is brand new. Or perhaps you had previoiusly installed VMWare once?

Well, in any case, if you can get it working, all you have to do is in the virtual machine settings, for the ethernet card, choose bridged mode. Then you don't need to do anything else (VMware will take care of all issue by itself). This will allow you to access the net freely. In fact, I do so from my virtual machines, and my PC is connected to a wireless router (by a wire though)
