Hey guys, There are various releases of MaC OS X going around on the net..Let this thread serve as a guide for people to choose the best release...
This topic has been discussed at various threads on the forum..Time to get it all at one place..
So lets begin...

I was waiting for uphuck's iATKOS to come out until now but that is taking way too long so i have decided to try Brazilmac DVD, i had already acquired original leopard DMG so I'll be patching it myself and installing it using this guide -

From what i've read ToH has it's set of issues and you have to do a lot of post installation tinkering to get all your hardware working.. I feel that Brazilmac DVD will be better to install without the Pc-EFI etc. -

Uphuck's Tiger releases were quite good however his leopard release is delayed. I used Leopard flat Img, because it was the smallest download available at 2.4GB however the TOH release by Netkas is the best so far.

The forums at Insanelymac and osx86scene are the best places to get going. Often people don't bother to read those where people detail exactly what you need to do to get it to work on your specific hardware and come up with stupid questions dime a dozen. The thing with getting osx to work on generic hardware is unless you have time and patience don't bother. Handholding does not work because you will run into issues for nearly everything.

Yeah been lookin at that "flat Image" torrent for months..but did it work???

Also is there just 1 TOH release or many???
They said updates will be released by ppf...any idea???

@harsh--Yeah man did a mistake.. getting the original dvd wud hav been better...wont have to download again n again...

Yup, worked for me. However the challenge is to copy it to your hard disk with dd. I had a second hdd so I could experiment. If you have only one its going to take your MBR. I have tried various dd commands to exclude MBR when copying but it always overwrites MBR and partition table and so its better to be careful. Apart from that once its copied just a few changes and you are ready to go.

hi technies...this is an off topic..but i hav a que to ask...

does Mac OS X work on all PC configurations or they r only designed for apple systems...please reply me...:)

^only for mac...
BUT there r workarounds available to this restrictions...Thats wat we r discussing here..
Still downloading..@75%..had a downtime of 3days on my bsnl connection..damn!

by the way...wat abt the drivers for graphics card and all??
Im thinking of instaling on a laptop..
i hav a vostro..And the sound doesnt work in linux or xp,,jus vista drivers...

I have been successfully running Tiger on my P35 based system....haven't booted into Windows since 4 months now and I certainly don't miss it :)

Am patching leopard on my x86 10.4.9, as i type and will try and install using the EFI + VAnilla kernel + Brazilmac, will post here how it goes.

EDIT: read the thread properly, the EFI installation messes with the MBR quite a bit and i have imp data on other partition on the same disk, will try and do a plain install today, will try EFI on a new HDD later..

Brazilmac.. didn't work for me.. everything from installation to postpatching went well, but it just won't boot. Tried everything from chain0/tboot to bootfix patching to easyBSD. The system just reboots as soon as i select the leopard from the OS menu, any suggestions? (Raul!!)

I hope iATKOS will wok atleast, uphucks dvd's have worked flawlessly in the past for me.. hope to see it soon on public trackers.

It IS on public trackers...Try mininova...
Im already downloadin...65%..
Smartass is letting go of the torrent in segments...

hope it works...
its a white install..

Same with TOH...it runs only on the crappy legacy mode..

so dumped it...
When i install the new kernel..it gives the blinking cursor or ulimited reboot..

Uphuck fooking rules man, iatkos worked on the first go. vanilla kernel and everything (online software updates.. yayyy). I had the welcome loop problem but your post there helped me sort it out.

Yeah but didn work out that well for me...NO lan , wifi, graphics or audio...lol:mad:
Yeah that was an initial workaround,, but theres a better one where u boot into single user mode...in terminal.,,and make leopard finish the the reg..

Vostro 1400..
8400m gs video
sigmatel audio
broadcom ethernet
intel abgn wireless...

Tried both efi with vanilla and patched kernel...
no go...

I've been using macintosh for the past 1 and half years, but I also have this PC with an AMD 3200+, ASUS A8N-E Motherboard, 7800GT...

I had a JaS release but couldn't get it to install.

Any suggestions on what release I should try?
