Okie, I need to know, can Windows be installed on MacBooks from Apple ofcourse :S.
Also, If yes, how much does an Original Copy of XP Pro cost in USA, currently.

Apple - MacBook - Technical Specifications

Is the link to the MacBook specs.

Im looking @ the 1.83 Ghz Core Duo.

The laptop is for my Dad.
Also, do suggest me some laptops with the Same/better config, and as light, ~5 pounds, for around $1200

Thanks..

Dell Latitude Notebooks << Dell Latitude..

Dell XPS M1210

Inspironâ„¢ 640m << Dell Inspiron 640m

Anyone of these configured with say an 80GB HDD, and 1GB RAM. look good.

The Core Duo proccessor @ 1.67 Ghz is more than enough. Its like 2x Faster than the Pentium M's anyways..

This one..

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

Configured to how i like it, costs only 900$

14.1 Inch... 1.67 Ghz Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD-RW w/ Windows XP Home (Pro costs like 150$ more)

100$ for an Extra Battery, which add's a lot of Battery life... 5 hours Dell Claims, though I doubt that..

There is Dell's XPS M1210, which is just 4.5 Pounds!

Heres the link..

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

But it goes upto, $1400 to $1500 depending on the config..

I configured it with 1GB RAM, 1.67 Ghz Core Duo, 80GB HDD, DVD-RW, nVidia GeForce Go 7400 (So that no RAM is wasted)

12.1 Inch...

Then theres the Latitude D520 DUAL CORE.. Cost was $860 for what i configured..

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

14.1 Inch Screen, 5.2 Lbs though, 1GB RAM, 1.67 Ghz Core Duo, 60GB HDD (80 GB wasnt there), DVD-RW,

This is what i sent my dad...

How does this look?

More importantly.. Its 4.3 Lbs only...

^^ no. Thats the 640m.

I looked it up, its 4.3 Lbs by default. Ofcourse, changes with the parts you change.

nopes...I used the D620 as a temp replacement in the office for a week or so

(wish that couldbe my permanent office m/c :( )

It is a sturdy and good looking machine no doubt....

BUT

It definitely weighs over 5lbs...more like 5.5-6

Also, the screen looks kinda washed out

Other than that, it's a nice machine for that price

^^ Too expensive, and rather biggish & bulky for being travelworthy...

If you really wanna dabble with Mac, I'd say get a regular laptop + a Mac Mini for the price that you'd pay for the Macbook pro

( I picked up an ultraportable and a Mac Mini combined for the price of the Macbook pro)

I would also suggest the same. A Good laptop and a CoreDuo based Mac Mini would be more VFM when compared with a MacBook unless you are very obsessed with the idea of getting a MacBook...:)

Ofcourse you can run WinXP on the Intel based Macs and its officially supported by Apple and I have to say that It has one of the best LCDs that I have ever seen. But personally I do not like Tiger as much as Win XP.

The looks of neither MacBook nor the Mac impress me that much. If I have the money to spend, I would rather have an Alienware Laptop than go for a MacBook even if the MacBook can run both OS...:ohyeah:

I use a PowerMac G5 (2 GHz Dual, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD) and an Intel based iMac (1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, X1600 Graphics) at work along with a HP workstation running Win XP. They are not worth the price for either the performance or the looks.

Also I felt that Tiger is not quite as stable as Windows XP. Mac OS 10.4.3 and 10.4.4 were the worst of the lot and were more buggy than the first release. 10.4.6 is a bit stable. Apple always keeps trying to do things out of the ordinary and hence it also keeps changing how things work quite fast. Its a pain for the Mac Programmer to keep up with.

That is really no suggestion - in that case he can also pick up an X2 and a calculator......

There were some Assumptions (perhaps correct) behind this piece of advice

Given the facts:

1)

a) He wants a portable lappy

b) Which can run Win XP

c) nevertheless he wanted to know if a Mac lappy can run XP

2) He has a limited budget

thus>

i) He not only wants a portable PC (or PC compatible) laptop

ii) He also wantsto play around with OS X

Hence>

The above suggestion :P

Ok, can any1 tell me a laptop, around 1200$...

Shouldnt be more than 4.5 Lbs..

1 GB RAM atleast... Should be Dual core..

The 640M is your best buy!

If you are willing to push up your budget a little though,

The Sony SZ series (Ultraportable), Fujitsu T4210 (ultrportable) or the Fujitsu S7110 (Thin & Light) would be worth considering
