News MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 with new processors released

MacBook-Pro-Notch-Feature.jpg
Apple is calling the event 'Unleashed' and its expected that they would be demonstrating the true power of their new silicon which they introduced in the lower end MacBooks. Calling them lower end would not be accurate given how they outperformed the beefier Intel processors. So much so that Intel went scrambling in desperation to release a series of ads showing how non-apple laptops are better, not once comparing the actual performance of Intel vs Apple silicon.

The MacBook Pro laptops are also supposed to redesigned around the new processors which are extremely energy efficient thus leading to a more compact design. The screen bezels are supposed to even thinner than they are in the 16" MacBook Pro and introduce a new MacBook screen size of 14" instead of the regular 13" size. The displays are expected to be mini LED with higher resolutions.

The base models on the new processor, to be called M1X or M2, are supposed to start with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. The processors themselves will get a bump up from 4 performance cores to 10 performance cores and 16 graphic cores from the 8 graphic cores. The cores are expected to run at a higher frequency. No wonder the event is being called Unleashed and Intel is scared out of their wits.

There are also rumours that the Touch Bar will go away in favor of regular function keys and we will have more variety of ports than just USBC ports currently available. A return to MagSafe charging is also expected.

All this however will likely cost 1,74,000 for the starting model here in India and would price it way out of reach for most of us.

Personally I would prefer that they introduce the redesigned chassis in the current base MacBook Pro model and take it from 13" to 14" with the current M1 processor in the market. I would happily take that model with a 16GB RAM option to replace my ageing MacBook 12. Had been saving every month for past 2 years for this day.

Should I wait for the M2 pro or get this one?
The M2 ones will definitely be more expensive. Depends on what you want tbh. There isn't much difference between the M1 and M2 anyway (nothing significant that is).
I would certainly recommend buying now since the discounts are good. Or if you can get for cheap outside India, wait for M2.

Thank you. I purchased the M1 Pro version.

Mac OS Ventura 13.1 which is released today is lightning fast as far as speed and responsiveness is concerned. Certainly the fastest my MBP 16 has ever been. I remember it was this lighting quick when I clean flashed 11.0 on MBA Air but it went away after updating it to 11.6. 12.x was a mess, let's see if Apple can maintain this with 13.x.

Don’t buy the base config m1 mac. 8GB memory and 256gb storage is what you get for 73k. It will be instant regret if it is anything more than watching movies or browsing net.
This. 16GB RAM models would last you much longer. Even 8GB/512 would be a better option in terms of being able to store more data locally and getting a faster SSD for smoother disk swaps to memory.

I keep a lot of tabs open (about 20-30 across multiple windows usually) and my RAM utilisation stays ~ 85% with medium (yellow) memory pressure in the activity manager so there is usually some disk swap happening even with 16GB ram.

If you're spending 75k on a laptop, push it to 85k and get one which will last much longer. My previous 2015 rMBP 13 is still running great.

Though if your budget is hard capped then even the base will be fine for regular work, its still a huge upgrade over older laptops

I mentioned the M1 Pro models(aka 14 and 16). They don't come in 8 gb variants AFAIK.
MBP is available in 8GB memory config, costs 1.4L right now at Croma. But yeah, I do see 1.45L for M1 Pro MBP 14 with 16GB memory and 512GB storage. That is a sweet deal. M2 Macbook Air with same config costs more (1.59L) and the M1 Pro MBP would be lot lot better. Btw, does it show in stock for your PIN code? It shows that this model is not available in Bangalore.

Damn, thats actually a very nice offer. Unless you can get the M2 ones from the US, this is the best offer you will get here.

Also in case you're buying from India, another benefit is that you're eligible for the OneAssist ADP program, costs ~ 4.5k per year and the repairs are done through ASP's like imagine, etc. For a 1.5L notebook, its worth it.

Shows delivery to mine at Noida. But now I'm leaning towards M2 Pros. Heh. Never ending GAS search.

14 inch M2 Pro already at 8% discount plus 10k discount.
20% on M1 Pro over (seemed like a weekend deal).
Croma is getting aggressive with offers.

Think a bit before diving into this. The 16" MBP is very heavy and very big laptop. I see that the M1 Pro variant already shows out of stock.

also, M2 Pro MBP beats M1 Max MBP and the base variant costs 1.89L at Imagine store.

I paid 2.37L yesterday for 12 core M2 Pro MBP 14" with 16GB memory and 1TB storage, at Imagine store.

I'm used to 16 inch laptops. And tried them extensively at Apple stores.
The price is really good though - unless you want the extra horsepower of M2. For usual day to day task and photo/video editing, M1 Pro is still very very good.
Also I'm looking at 16 inch 1tb. So with current offers, that is about 80k more expensive than M1 Pro.

If you are used to 16", it is one hell of a deal. Were you able to see M1 Pro variant in stock in that site. It shows out of stock and only options are with M2 Max.
