Mac OS Main apps on Mac

Hello,
I am planning to buy my first Mac system
So want to know what are the necessary apps I need to install on it (or get it pre-installed)
1. Equivalent to Windows word, excel, power point?
2. similar to adobe photoshop? or lightroom?
3. Movie /Audio players like vlc, media player11, etc?

1. Equivalent to Windows word, excel, power point? Get iWork with Pages = Word, Numbers = Excel and Keynote = PowerPoint
2. similar to adobe photoshop? or lightroom? Theres no substitute for Photoshop ;)
3. Movie /Audio players like vlc, media player11, etc? Same goes for Vlc ;) ;)

Also for a program launcher try Quicksilver. Its the best.

BTW Here is advice from an ex-iMac owner and Mac Fanboy. Don't buy a Mac system if you want to game. Even on Windows. The graphic cards in an iMac just dont cut it. But for Photoshop and all that stuff, its the best thing ever.

@bennysachdev
Although iWork had me hooked; it didn't quite fit in the whole MS Office scenario that we have. So advising iWork to someone looking for Office alternative could be futile.

My friend already carrying 3 Laptops from US. So couldnot buy my MacBook.
Cant afford Indian price . Postponing the plan to buy macbook till I get another guy to carry from US... :-(

^ The Indian price for the 999$ MacBook is okay. Consider the fact that some of the extra cost goes to the government and get it! :D
I think the Indian price is minmum 20K extra...????
and all the models are not yet come

^ All MacBook models should be available by now.
55k is the price I guess. Not 20k expensive!

It's totally your call, but I don't think that "someone coming from US" should be that big deciding factor.

Now that you guys have already dug up a post related to Mac applications, I needed to know about whats a good CD/DVD burning software for it? Anything like Window's NeroBurn?

Have been testing a few burner. Problem with all of them is that when I try and add more files to a non-blank disk, the finder shows multiple disks even with only one disk being inserted.

What I mean is, if I write one disk 3 times, with multi-session option, then all the 3 different session show up as different disks in the finder and not a single disk. Same is happening with Toast too. What can be done about it?

^ Did you try this on a freshly erased disk on your Mac or the one that had its previous session burned in Windows?
I tried it on a rewritable CD which I previously used on Windows. But then I did erase the disk before using it on Mac.
