Now that I have bought one, tips to maintain the body and lens in the damp Mumbai condition are welcome. I will be buying Silica packs, any other passive maintenance which is required?

Just remember to pop those silica packets into a microwave(or something else :|) once every few weeks.
Lookup eazy's thread about silicagel packets and how to use them

Buy a tupperware box and put silica packets inside. Wrap the DSLR with a soft dry cloth and keep it inside the box. While using it, keep the cloth back in the tupperware.

Always wipe the body with a slightly damp cloth when you use the cam in a dusty place or at a beach. Anywhere with dust or salty air.

Never ever change lens when the surroundings are damp or dusty.

The best way (and most fun too!) to prevent fungus is to go out and use the camera and all the lenses regularly.
:)

Another good tip someone gave me is *not* to use the yellow flannel cloth for wrapping but to use regular paper towels instead. And dispose the paper towels often. The cloth itself tends to catch fungus.
