Laptops Making a DVD from Rescue partition (HP laptop)

My friend has a compaq nx6320 laptop which was preinstalled with Windows Vista. It had a rescue partition, however no rescue DVD was created so far. Now, the Vista installation is nonfunctional and doesn't boot at all.

The laptop dual boots OpenSUSE from which I can access the rescue partition. Is there some way I could burn it to a DVD to bring the laptop back to factory settings?

this is the clumsy way but perhaps you can load some other windows, like xp on one partition.. then from xp you can burn the rescue dvd from the backup partition..

There must be a rescue option key during boot, for instance in my sony sz its f10 I think to access the recovery partition.

If there is no bootup key (unlikely) then reinstall Vista with the drivers from the compaq/HP site, notebookreview.com forums can be a useful site to resolve this.

There is (F11) but it doesnt work, the notebook just gives a series of beeps. I guess it cant recognise it with the partitions changed.

Yes, if nothing else works i'll do it as said above.

I have a compaq lappy and the first thing i did was to create rescue DVD's... The best option is to call HP and they will send you free Rescue DVD's... Ore you can go to a nearby HP store and burn rescue disc for your lappy...

Err.. is it possible to run HP's recovery manager from Windows XP, for creating the Vista rescue disk? Because right now I don't have access to any other Vista DVD.

well... there is a HP utility/recovery wizard i saw on one of my friend's HP laptop.. that software creates the rescue disk.. so, if you can download that software from HP site or google it, you can load it in XP n then run it to make the rescue disk for vista.. now you can boot your laptop from this rescue dvd n re-load vista.. (this is something i suppose should work.. but have personally never tried.. )

although, first try our what switch has suggested you above.. that's the best n easiest way..

also, be ware that you do not format of delete anything from your backup partition..
